BMW's New 450 Spied Testing In India

A fully-faired BMW sportbike prototype, built on the same 450 platform as the upcoming BMW F 450 GS, has been spotted undergoing testing in India. The test mule appears heavily camouflaged, but key design clues and BMW-specific components strongly hint at an all-new middleweight supersport from BMW Motorrad, with production help from TVS Motor Company. However, reports suggest that TVS is also working on a 450cc motorcycle. Although it was a bit hard to guess whether the test mule belongs to TVS or BMW. But the branding on the front brake calliper makes it clear that this test mule belongs to BMW. Adding to that is the presence of BMW's signature jog wheel on the left-side switchgear, a feature that's rarely seen on TVS motorcycles. The alloy wheels follow a familiar five-spoke pattern similar to the G 310 RR, though they appear to be a newly designed set rather than a direct carryover.

Most of the front fascia remains hidden under camouflage, with only the overall shape visible. Even so, the silhouette hints at styling cues inspired by the S 1000 RR. On the other hand, the mirror appears to be shared with the F 450 GS, along with those gold-finished USD front forks. Meanwhile, at the rear, tailamps carry the same BMW-specific design cues, brake light integrated into the indicators.

Meanwhile, this super sport is also expected to share the underpinnings of the F 450 GS. It is likely to be powered by a 420cc, parallel twin, liquid-cooled engine. When mated with a 6-speed gearbox, it belts out 48hp and 43nm of torque.

Verdict

The sighting of BMWs new 450cc fully-faired motorcycle hints at an exciting expansion of the brand's middleweight portfolio. With clear BMW design cues, premium cycle parts, and shared underpinnings with the upcoming F 450 GS, this motorcycle could mark BMW Motorrad's entry into the entry-level supersport segment. If positioned right, it has the potential to offer a compelling mix of performance, technology, and everyday usability, while also strengthening BMW and TVSs already successful partnership.
