MG Motor is days away from launching its electric SUV for India, the ZS EV. While the SUV has a real world driving range of about 250-300 km, the company is trying to create an eco-system around the charging infrastructure to make sure consumers do not face issues while using the vehicle. As part of this, the company has completed the installation of 10 DC Fast Chargers.
These DC Chargers have come up in various cities. These include one each at Gurgaon, Noida, Thane, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad. Bangalore and Delhi get two each. These are 50 KW fast chargers which means the MG ZS EV can be charged from 0 to 80% in less than an hour! These are powered by Fortum, one of the industry leaders when it comes to providing charging solutions for EVs around the world.
The above chargers are installed at MG dealerships and more will be added this year. With this, MG maintains its aim of setting up a 5-step charging ecosystem. For example, every ZS EV will be offered with an on-board cable to charge via a normal 15A socket. MG will also install an AC fast charger, free of cost, at the home or office of the owner. The DC fast network at the dealerships will be available 24x7 and further, the company will come up with charging infrastructure at select satellite cities along key routes. This means, a ZS EV owner in Delhi will be able to drive across to tourist destinations like Jaipur, Shimla et al in the future, without having to worry about running out of battery juice.
Finally, owners will also have the back up of using charge-on-the-go with RSA (road side assistance). In this case, the RSA vehicle will come with fully charged batteries that could be used to power up the ZS EV's set-up for making sure the SUV reaches the nearest charging station.
