EESL & HPCL sign MOU to set up charging stations for EVs

Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) have signed a 2 year MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) to promote charging infrastructure for Electric vehicles. Both the companies have entered in a 2-year MoU to promote electric mobility by setting up charging stations for two-wheelers, three-wheelers and four-wheelers for consumers of electric vehicles. This MoU will establish an ecosystem of public charging infrastructure.

This MoU will promote the collaboration of planning, development and installation of charging infrastructure at suitable places which will decrease the range anxiety of electric vehicle buyers and it will also promote faster adoption of electric vehicles. This MoU will also decrease pollution and help to establish cleaner and greener mobility solutions.

"Increased access to charging infrastructure is vital for the uptake of electric mobility across the entire EV ecosystem of two, three, and four-wheelers. Along with addressing the range anxiety concerns that EV-adopters may have, our partnership with HPCL will also establish more visibility of charging infrastructure, sending a signal to the general public that India's electric mobility vision is being realised in full potential.

Shri. Saurabh Kumar, Managing Director, EESL

These charging stations will be open to all kinds of EV users, whether it's a two, three or four-wheeler, every EV owner will be able to charge their vehicle. These charging stations will be fixed at accessible locations from where the general public can access these charging stations to charge their vehicles.

These charging stations will also encourage the general public to shift from IC to EV vehicles by visualising the concern of government towards the initiative for cleaner and greener mobility.

However, there are no guidelines mentioned that where these stations will be set up? Will they come for free and if not, then how much the customer will pay? Will they also target Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities? There are a lot of questions flowing in the mind of the consumer and only time will answer them all!

To conquer the deficiency of charging infrastructure, new EV manufacturers, for instance, MG Motors have partnered with Echargebays to setup home chargers. Tata Motors announced a partnership with Tata Power to create a charging infrastructure. This shows that OEMs are coming in partnership to create their own charging ecosystem and there is still no universal platform where anyone can come with their EV and charge it regardless of the brand and type of EV that the customer has!

This new MoU between EESL and HPCL might give us a universal solution to this pre-existing problem and find success to promote EV propulsion.
