Launched in the year 2005, the First-Gen Maruti Suzuki Swift was offered as a well built, powerful, and fun to drive car. The car had an impressive design language, a VFM pricing, great build quality, reliable mechanicals, and Maruti's after-sales support which made it an instant success on Indian soil. In this sequel of Walking Down The Memory Lane, we bring you the First-gen Swift.

First-Gen Maruti Suzuki Swift

Being the Suzuki's first global model to go on sale in India, the first-gen Swift directly locked its horns with rivals such as Fiat Palio, Hyundai Getz, and Opel Corsa Sail. The car featured typical European design language which did look quite futuristic for its time. Overall, the Swift had a distinct look that impressed the car buyers and the car went on to win the Indian Car Of The Year award in 2006.

First-Gen Maruti Suzuki Swift

Moving to the interiors, the Swift had a dark grey colour scheme for the cabin which did make it look sporty and modern. The layout of the dashboard was subtle yet extremely practical while the three-spoke steering wheel gave decent feedback to the driver. The range-topping ZXi variant of the car came loaded with all the bells and whistles and featured automatic climate control, rear parcel tray, alloy wheels, driver's seat height adjustment, body-coloured door handles, etc.

First-Gen Maruti Suzuki Swift

The First-Gen Maruti Suzuki Swift had three trim options - LXi, VXi, and ZXi. The LXi variant was priced at Rs 3.8 lakh while the VXi and ZXi were priced at Rs 4.3 lakh and Rs. 5.2 lakh respectively. the ZXi variant had all the safety features such as dual airbags, ABS, EBD, etc.

Powering the First-gen Maruti Suzuki Swift were two engine options. The first engine was a 1.3-L G13BB petrol engine that churned out 87 bhp and 115 Nm of maximum torque while the second engine on offer was the Fiat Sourced 1.3-L DDiS engine. The diesel engine was introduced in the Swift in 2007 and this engine produced 75 hp and 190 Nm of peak torque figures. Both these engines came mated to a five-speed manual transmission.
