Expert Verdict on Ignis

Design8
Interior7.5
Engine9

The Maruti Suzuki Ignis is a great car on offer with a comfortable cabin, great interiors, and a refined petrol engine with superior fuel economy. It has been quite a long time since it received any updates or facelifts. It is a great car if you plan to modify it as the engine is mod friendly as well. Though it is an underrated product in the segment still it offers great value-for-money features at the price point it is offered.

Variant Recommendation

author

The Maruti Suzuki Ignis is offered in four variants. It has a single engine option with both AMT and manual transmission. According to us, if you are tight on budget and can get aftermarket accessories then the base Sigma variant is the right choice for you. You should stretch your budget for a better deal. It includes an AMT option. The Zeta variant has all the necessary features. Upgrading to the Alpha variant is not a worthy upgrade.

Pros & Cons of Maruti Ignis

  • Features we admire in this car

    • Its compact size makes it a fun-to-drive vehicle in the city.
    • The engine is refined and has great fuel efficiency.
    • The fit-finish of the interior is great with some nice elements
    • The seats offer great comfort and the cabin is neatly laid.
  • Features that could have been better

    • It has not received any update for a long time and feels a bit dated.
    • Space is not enough for 5 passengers
    • Competitions offer more features.
    • The build quality is not as good as the competition.

Should I buy the Ignis?

Maruti Suzuki Ignis is a great vehicle for a nuclear family. With great features, a refined engine, and decent fuel economy, it is a great all-round package. However, it is not doing great in sales and hasn't received any updates for quite a long time. Though there is great competition in the segment. If in case you are still not convinced about the Ignis, then you might check for TATA PUNCH or the HYUNDAI EXTER.

Muscular Suv Stance With Bold Front Face 8
  • The design of the Ignis is unique and has a muscular macho front face. The u-shaped LED DRLS with projector setup provides great illumination at night. The front face is lifted which provides an SUV stance to this hatchback.
  • The 15” alloy wheels give great traction on the roads. The design is sleek and the black paint job gives a more aesthetically pleasing presence. It is a short car so yes space at the rear can be an issue. The C-pillar of the Ignis has a tiger claws-inspired design treatment that tries to improve the aerodynamics of the vehicle. Coming to the rear profile, the design of the Ignis is plain and basic. The taillamps are not LED which is a disadvantage. The boot space is decent and since the loading lib is quite high, stuffing luggage inside the boot can be a challenging task. Overall the aesthetics at the rear could have been improved.

Latest On Maruti Ignis

Last Updated on 16th May'24: In February, Maruti reduced prices for the Ignis Delta, Zeta, and Alpha AMT variants by Rs. 5,000. The Maruti Ignis, a compact hatchback sold under the NEXA brand, remains largely unchanged.

Ignis Price : The Maruti Suzuki Ignis is offered at a price range of ₹5.84 lakhs - ₹8.16 lakhs (ex-showroom). It is available in four broad variants: Sigma, Delta, Zeta, and Alpha.

Interior Features: The Maruti Suzuki Ignis is built with comfort and convenience to provide you with an ultimate driving experience. With a dual-tone ivory dashboard and vibrant upholstery, the interior of the car is designed to keep the passengers calm and composed. The vehicle boasts a sophisticated Smart Play Studio, intuitive steering-mounted controls, a vibrant MID with a cutting-edge TFT display, convenient automatic climate control, adjustable tilt steering, and an advanced 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system compatible with Android and Apple Car Play. Additionally, it shines with LED projector headlamps accompanied by stylish DRLs.

Engine: Powering the Ignis is a 1.2-liter petrol engine (82bhp/113Nm) matched with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT. Maruti claims a fuel efficiency of 20.89kmpl for both manual and AMT models.

Mileage : The Manual Diesel variant touts a claimed mileage of 16.14 Kmpl, while the Automatic Diesel variant offers a mileage figure of 14.08 Kmpl.

Dimensions : Maruti Suzuki Ignis measures 3700mm in length, 1690mm in width, and 1595mm in height.

Features : Noteworthy features of the Maruti Suzuki Ignis encompass a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, LED projector headlamps with DRLs, automatic climate control, steering mounted controls, push start/stop button, MID with TFT screen, and auto-folding outside rearview mirrors.

Safety : The Maruti Suzuki Ignis comes equipped with multiple safety features including dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX child seat anchorages, pedestrian protection compliance, and rear parking sensors.

Colours : The Maruti Suzuki Ignis is available in six monotone and three dual-tone exterior colors: Nexa Blue, Lucent Orange, Silky Silver, Turquoise Blue, Glistening Grey, Pearl Arctic White, Pearl Midnight Black, Lucent Orange with Black roof, Nexa Blue with Silver roof, and Nexa Blue with Black roof.

Rivals :

Maruti Ignis vs Hyundai Exter

Maruti Ignis is an underrated competition to the Hyundai Exter. In terms of design, both offer a muscular look with a bold stance, great features, and similar performance from the engine. In terms of dimensions, the Exter is longer, wider, and taller just by a few centimeters as compared to the Ignis. Regarding features, Exter offers more practical ones like a wireless charger. For safety, it comes with 6 airbags standard on all trims. Ignis only gets two airbags and misses the wireless charger. Talking about seating comfort practicality, the Ignis has decent space in the cabin with good comfort. Exter on the other hand offers a much roomier cabin experience with an option of sunroof and better seating comfort.

Maruti Ignis vs Tata Punch

TATA PUNCH is another strong contender to the Ignis. It has a more robust and macho appearance with the split headlamps setup. In terms of performance, the Ignis engine is much more refined and calm as compared to the Punch 3-cylinder unit. Talking about seating comfort, Punch has an upper edge by offering a more spacious cabin and the inclusion of the sunroof takes it a lead ahead. In terms of fit-finish quality and cabin experience, Ignis from Maruti Suzuki has much better interiors. They have a neatly laid dashboard and cool elements on the door panels. On the other hand, Punch’s interior is also a nice place to be in but there you might experience some panel gaps. The infotainment touchscreen in the Ignis is much more slick and easy to operate over the Punch unit.
