Honda ADV 160 India Launch Soon; Local Production Underway

Honda appears to be moving closer to introducing the ADV 160 in India, with fresh reports suggesting the company is actively localising the premium maxi-scooter for the domestic market. Honda ADV 160: Adventure-Inspired Design Sets It Apart

Unlike traditional scooters, the Honda ADV 160 adopts a more rugged and adventure-focused approach. Its styling is inspired by larger adventure motorcycles, featuring a tall windscreen, upright ergonomics, muscular bodywork, and a prominent beak-style front fascia. The scooter's 165 mm ground clearance is notably higher than most conventional scooters on sale today, making it better suited to rough roads and broken surfaces. Honda has paired this with a 14-inch front wheel and a 13-inch rear wheel wrapped in wide tubeless tyres, giving the ADV160 a more planted stance.

One of the ADV 160's strongest selling points is likely to be its extensive equipment list. International-spec versions come equipped with a fully digital instrument cluster, Smart Key system, USB charging socket, all-LED lighting and a sizeable under-seat storage compartment. The scooter also features Honda Selectable Torque Control, which helps improve traction in low-grip situations. Another standout feature is the adjustable windscreen, which could become a segment-first offering if introduced on the India-spec model.

Liquid-Cooled Engine With Touring Credentials

Powering the ADV160 is Honda's latest 156.9cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine. Equipped with fuel injection and a four-valve cylinder head, the motor develops 15.8 hp at 8,500 rpm and 14.7 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm. The engine is paired with a CVT automatic transmission and benefits from Honda's ACG silent starter system and idle-stop technology. With an 8.1-litre fuel tank and claimed real-world efficiency expected to be around the 45 kmpl mark, the ADV160 could offer a respectable touring range as well.

Expected Pricing And Rivals

Since Honda is reportedly localising production, pricing could be more competitive than initially expected. The Honda ADV 160 is likely to slot above the Yamaha Aerox 155 and directly challenge the Hero Xoom 160, offering a more adventure-oriented alternative in the premium scooter space.
