Maruti S-cross will soon get a BS6 compliant 1.5-litre petrol engine with SHVS technology and it will become a petrol-only offering rather than just being a diesel-only like before! The same 1.5 petrol also powers the Ciaz and the XL6.
Yesterday we shared the images of the upcoming Vitara Brezza facelift with a 1.5-litre petrol engine which will take place of the old 1.3-litre DDIS oil burner sourced from Fiat. It has been an affair of over 12 years between MSIL and Fiat India. Now it's time to say bye to the much loved 1.3-litre DDIS or Multijet whatever you want to call it. It won't be making its way to cross the barrier of strict Bharat Stage 6 emission norms.
MSIL has already announced earlier that they will only sell petrol cars post BS6 emission norms kick in as it is an expensive conversion from BS4 to BS6 and customers might not go for diesel after the price hike. The Suzuki S-cross which was just a diesel offering only soon to get a petrol engine in place of the diesel. The 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine with 105 bhp and 138 Nm of torque paired with Suzuki's SHVS technology will make its way in S-cross and upcoming Vitara Brezza facelift too. It will be paired with a 5-speed manual and a ubiquitous 4-speed AT. The expected launch time is around 2020 Auto Expo for both S-cross and Vitara Brezza.

However, it isn't the end for diesel as MSIL added that if in future, there is some demand left for diesel, they will consider their in-house developed 1.5-litre DDIS 225 diesel engine to clear the BS6 emission test and sell it afterwards in their big cars like Vitara Brezza, Ertiga, Ciaz and S-cross.
