Renault Kiger SUV: Is This A Vitara Brezza rival?

Earlier in 2019, Renault launched the all-new Triber in the Indian market. The low-budget seven-seater MPV is currently one of the best-selling vehicles from the French brand in India. The company is now planning to enter the sub-4m compact SUV segment to take on the likes of Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue and more. And guess what, it might be the Renault Kiger SUV!

As per CarWale, the upcoming Renault sub-4m compact SUV will be known as the Kiger. Currently, the product is under development and Renault is testing it under camouflage on the Indian roads. It is internally known as the HBC. Renault India's CEO, Mr Venkatram Mamillapalle, announced that the all-new car would be launched in the Indian market in the second half of 2020.

The name Kiger comes from a leaked document mentioned in the report. The new name has been trademarked in India, and it was registered after the Triber.

The information on the upcoming Renault Kiger SUV remains scarce at the moment. However, it will get the same platform as the Renault Triber. The styling and design of the forthcoming sub-4m compact SUV might get inspired by the Captur, which is currently the most-expensive Renault vehicle in the Indian market. However, the overall design of the car will remind you of the Kwid hatchback. Known as the CMF-A platform, it is a platform for low-cost vehicles.

Renault will put a very attractive price tag on the upcoming Kiger, and we expect it to be the most affordable vehicle in the segment. The vehicle may carry a sticker price of Rs 6 lakhs for the entry-level variant. The top-end option will remain cheaper than the competition.

The Kiger will be a five-seater car that will target young buyers in the Indian market. Since the new BS6 emission norms will come into effect from 1st April 2020, Renault will offer only a petrol engine with the car.
The current engine option that powers the Renault Triber will be available with the upcoming Kiger in the Indian market. However, Renault may bring in the 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that generates a maximum of 72 PS and peak torque of 96 Nm to power the upcoming car.
