Honda CB1000 Hornet SP Detailed Review
-
The CB1000 Hornet SP is Honda’s reimagination of a naked flagship motorcycle, as it comes with a properly modern design, thus replacing the erstwhile CB1000 R, which came with a more neo-retro, classical approach. It follows the typical streetfighter design language, featuring a beefy fuel tank giving it a muscular stance, along with sharp visual elements, compact fenders, an upswept tail section and a stubby exhaust pipe.
-
The compact rear section looks familiar to other Honda sportsbikes. However, when viewed from the front three-quarters, you might get reminded of the Ducati Streetfighter V4. However, the Streetfighter is a far more expensive motorcycle and it is also more powerful than the Honda, even if they both pack four-cylinder engines.

-
The CB1000 Hornet SP shares its powertrain with the 2017 CBR1000RR Fireblade. However, the bikemaker has made many changes to the internals of this powertrain. It is a 1000cc, liquid-cooled four-cylinder unit which produces 155bhp at 11,000rpm and 107Nm of torque at 9000rpm. The 6-speed gearbox comes with a quickshifter as standard in the SP variant.
-
These figures make the Honda CB 1000 Hornet SP stand quite close to motorcycles like the Suzuki Katana and the Kawasaki Z900, both of which also feature inline-four engines. However, the Kawasaki is more affordable than the Suzuki Katana and the CB1000 Hornet SP.
-
The CB1000 Hornet SP is built on a new twin-spar frame, which hangs off of 41mm Showa SFF big-piston forks, along with an Ohlins TTX monoshock and a pro-link swingarm at the rear. For braking, Honda has deployed 310mm twin discs up front with radially-mounted Nissin four-piston callipers, along with a 240mm disc with a Nissin single-piston calliper at the rear. The bike makes use of 17-inch wheels with alloy rims on both ends, and it tips the scales at 212kg.
-
In terms of features, the CB1000 Hornet SP is equipped with things such as a 5-inch colour TFT screen paired with Honda’s RoadSync connectivity suite. This gives it access to turn-by-turn navigation, and call/SMS alerts. There are three default riding modes on offer, along with two custom modes, and it also comes with four-level Honda Selectable Torque Control, engine braking control and wheelie control.
