Triumph Thruxton 400 Detailed Review
-
The Thruxton 400 bears some visual differences over the Speed 400, giving it a unique identity of its own. It gets a half-fairing that draws inspiration from the Speed Triple 1200 RR, with a round LED headlamp and the X-shaped DRL. The tank, side panels, and the upswept exhaust pipe give it that familiar look and feel.
-
The tail section of the Thruxton 400 has been redesigned, featuring a completely new tail lamp that looks different from the rest of the motorcycles on the TR platform. Additionally, the Thruxton also gets the option of swapping the pillion seat for a lockable rear cowl, thus converting it into a proper cafe racer.
-
The neo-retro treatment continues with the Thruxton 400, but it also gets modern elements such as the combination of chrome and black treatment on certain areas, along with twin-spoke alloy rims. Triumph gives it a total of four dual-tone colour options; Lava red gloss with Aluminium silver, Phantom Black with Aluminium Silver, Metallic racing yellow with aluminium silver, and Pearl Metallic White with Storm Grey.
-
The Thruxton 400 is based on the Speed 400, and while both motorcycles do share some components, there are some interesting differences. It carries over the same 398cc, liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine, but with a marginally higher output of 1.4bhp at 9000rpm and 37.5Nm of torque at 7500rpm, indicating its more performance-oriented nature.
-
Built on the same steel perimeter frame, the Thruxton 400 uses 43mm USD big piston forks and a gas-charged monoshock with pre-load adjustability. The 300mm disc with four-piston radial callipers at the front, along with the 230mm disc with a floating calliper have also been retained.
-
It also continues to ride on 17-inch wheels with alloy rims. Interestingly, the Thruxton 400 gets a slimmer 150/60-section rear tyre. With a kerb weight of 183kg, the Thruxton 400 weighs 4kg more than the Speed 400.
Thruxton 400 engine specifications:
| Transmission | Manual |
| Engine | 398 cc |
-
The Thruxton 400 carries over the same semi-digital instrument cluster from the Speed 400, and along with that, it also gets ride-by-wire throttle, a slip-and-assist clutch, a USB-C charging port, switchable traction control, dual-channel ABS, and a lockable seat cowl among other things.
-
Additionally, Triumph also gives you a range of items from its accessories suite, which allow you to customize the motorcycle based on your needs, and this suite also includes some useful features. The accessories suite includes things such as heated grips, knee pads, Quilted seat, Radiator guard, Tank pads, and Bullet LED indicators.
