Should I buy the RC 390?
If you are someone who values performance, sharp handling, and a connected riding experience, the RC 390 is easily one of the best options in its segment. It offers a level of engagement that most rivals simply cannot match. At the same time, it’s not the most practical motorcycle out there. The riding posture is still aggressive, and comfort takes a slight hit, especially on longer rides or in heavy traffic conditions. So, the decision really comes down to your priorities-if riding excitement is high on your list, this bike delivers in spades.
-
The KTM RC 390 appears a bit like a scaled-down race machine, and that’s exactly its biggest strength. The new-generation styling brings in a sharper, more aerodynamic fairing along with a prominent front profile that adds visual appeal.
-
The LED headlamp setup and large windscreen not only enhance the bike’s presence but also serve a functional purpose at higher speeds. The fuel tank now feels more muscular and better integrated into the design, giving the bike a proper supersport stance.
-
That said, the tail section still feels slightly too slim compared to the front-heavy design. While it keeps things lightweight and race-focused, some riders might prefer a bit more visual balance at the rear.
RC 390 body specifications:
| Ground Clearance | 153 mm |

The dimensions of the new KTM RC 390 are large than the outgoing motorcycle. The new bike is wider, longer, and higher than the previous version. The overall dimensions make it appear bigger than its actual size. Also, the KTM engineers have designed the overall dimensions in a manner that the new bike does not feel cumbersome to ride inside the city limits. It is nimble and easy to flick inside the city traffic due to its shorter wheelbase and well-defined handling characteristics. The RC 390 gets 158 mm of ground clearance and 1,355 mm of wheelbase. It weighs 172 kg.
Summary
The dimensions of the KTM RC 390 are nimble & easy-to-handle.
-
The 373cc engine continues to be the heart of the RC 390, and it still feels like one of the most exciting motors in this segment. With around 43 PS of power and strong torque output, the bike feels quick right from the get-go and builds speed effortlessly.
-
What’s improved in this version is the overall rideability. The larger airbox and revised engine mapping have made the power delivery smoother and more usable, especially in city conditions.
-
Once you cross the mid-range, the bike really comes alive and pulls strongly all the way to the top end. It may not feel as wild as the older version, but it is definitely more refined and easier to live with on a daily basis.
RC 390 engine specifications:
| Transmission | Manual |
| Mileage | 25-28.9 |
| Engine | 373.27 cc |
-
KTM has loaded the RC 390 with features that were earlier seen only on bigger bikes. It comes with a 5-inch TFT crisp display and supports Bluetooth connectivity for basic smartphone functions, which adds everyday usability.
-
Beside this the KTM RC 390 features a bi-directional quickshifter as standard. It genuinely transforms the riding experience, especially when you’re pushing the bike hard or riding aggressively on open roads.
-
On top of that, ride-by-wire throttle and traction control ensure that the bike feels modern and well-calibrated. It’s not just about adding features for the sake of it-most of them actually enhance the riding experience in a meaningful way.
The ride & handling has been a forte of the RC 390 sports bike. Although, not comfortable but the ride of the bike is commendable according to the segment standard. The fully adjustable suspension at both the tyres helps the rider to achieve a sweet combination of sporty yet comfortable ride quality. Similarly, the handling is the area that RC 390 has ruled for so long. To add to this fact, the new bike now comes equipped with 10mm handlebar raisers to make the city riding comfortable. While the removal of these raisers transforms the motorcycle completely into a track monster which is also fun to ride on the city streets as well as the highway traffic.
Summary
The ride & handling combination of the KTM RC 390 is well-balanced for city riding as well as track riding.
-
Safety is one area where the RC 390 clearly leads its segment. The inclusion of lean-sensitive cornering ABS is a big deal, as it adds confidence while braking mid-corner, especially for less experienced riders.
-
The Supermoto mode, which disables rear ABS, gives experienced riders more control and flexibility, particularly during spirited riding or track sessions. It’s a proper enthusiast-focused addition.
-
Braking performance is strong and progressive, backed by large disc brakes at both ends and a well-balanced chassis. Combined with traction control, the overall setup feels very reassuring even when you start pushing the limits.
