Pros & Cons of Yamaha FZ-S FI Hybrid

• What we admire in this bike

  • The FZ-S FI Hybrid’s kerb weight of 136kg makes it rather nimble and easy for various riders to use, which is contrary to its muscular image with the beefy fuel tank.
  • The riding position is fairly straightforward and comfortable.
  • The new TFT screen and added features make it more practical than before.
  • The tank-integrated turn-indicators give it a cleaner look, and the LED lighting lends it a further premium, sophisticated appearance.

• What could have been better

  • The suspension is fairly stiff and makes you aware of bumps while riding over even mildly-unpaved roads.
  • The engine feels buzzy and unrefined even at speeds around 60kmph, and it runs out of breath fairly quickly, which makes overtaking a difficult task.

Modern and Muscular 8.5

• Yamaha has retained the FZ-S’s aggressive, streetfighter-inspired design while adding subtle refinements. The tank shrouds, muscular stance, and all-LED lighting give it a premium appeal. New color options - Metallic Grey, Matte Black, Ice Fluo-Vermillion, and Cyber Green - freshness, with gloss black accents replacing chrome elements on the tank shrouds for a sleeker look. The repositioned turn indicators, now integrated into the tank shrouds, help distinguish the 2025 model.

• The FZ-S FI Hybrid becomes the first motorcycle in the 150cc segment to come with a mild-hybrid setup. Retaining the same 149cc, single-cylinder engine, the FZ-S FI Hybrid puts out 12.2bhp at 7250rpm and 13.3Nm of torque at 5500rpm. The engine comes with a starter motor generator which not only adds a silent starter and a start-stop system, it also aids in a small boost of acceleration assisted via the battery. The powertrain is also now OBD2B compliant. 

 

Tech-Loaded Commuter 9

• The standout addition is the 4.2-inch full-colour TFT instrument cluster, displaying speed, odometer, fuel gauge, tripmeter, gear position, clock, and more. Bluetooth connectivity via the Y-Connect app offers call/SMS alerts, music controls, and turn-by-turn navigation. Other highlights include traction control, an automatic start/stop system, a side-stand engine cut-off, a silent starter, and new switchgear for seamless dashboard navigation. The all-LED lighting enhances visibility and style.

Efficient and Engaging 8.7

• The 149cc engine, paired with hybrid assist, delivers smooth power delivery and improved low-end torque for urban riding. The SMG ensures silent starts and boosts efficiency, while the slipper clutch makes gear shifts effortless. With 12.4PS and 13.3Nm, it’s peppy for city traffic and capable on highways. The OBD2B-compliant engine offers sharper throttle response and better mileage, though exact figures are yet to be confirmed.

• The FZ-S Fi Hybrid features a 41mm telescopic front fork and a seven-step preload adjustable rear monoshock, offering a balanced ride for city and occasional highway use. The diamond-type frame ensures agility and stability, making it easy to flick through traffic or carve corners. The 17-inch alloy wheels, paired with 100/80 front and 140/60 rear tubeless tires, provide ample grip and confidence.

  Good pickup, great look, and smooth riding. I really enjoy driving it. The mileage is reasonable, and it offers good flexibility. I’ve had a great experience using this bike for the past 5 years. Service charges are low, and the top speed has touched 140 km/h.
