Should I buy the Taigun 2021-2026?
The Volkswagen Taigun is a great family car with good features, decent fuel economy, and brilliant driving dynamics. This car not only provides excellent safety standards but also great build quality and toughness inside the cabin. The ambiance is well-lit with sunroofs light color upholstery and a premium feel of materials. It is a good option for performance-oriented customers. It has great driving. But, if you are not convinced about the Taigun, then you can consider other options. You could look at cars like the Hyundai Creta, Toyota Hyryder, or the Honda Elevate.
- The design of the VW Taigun is simple with pure elegance. It has minimal use of chrome on the grill, connecting the headlights but lower down there is chrome used to enhance the premium appearance. The LED headlights have a projector setup with a fake unit inside. The throw of these headlights is brilliant and provides great illumination at night. The fog lamps are halogen units and come with a cornering function which is a nice feature on offer.
- Coming to the side profile, has cuts and creases to enhance the aesthetics of the vehicle. It comes with 17” alloy wheels that provide a muscular stance. It has ample ground clearance on offer. It has a subtle use of chrome on the door handles with minimal bidding on the window line which provides a premium touch. The roof rails are very much functional and can hold luggage up to 40 kg.
- At the rear, the premiumness and design language of the front are carried out. It gets connected taillamp treatment separated by the VW logo. The loading lib of the boot is quite high. The rear has the same chrome treatment that is at the front. The boot space is great in the segment and has a much more practical boot than its competitors.
- It has some special editions as well like SOUND EDITION or the TRAIL EDITION which has cosmetic updates. The GT EDGE Variant offers the Deep Black Pearl shade and the Carbon Steel Grey Matte color.
- As we step inside the cabin of the VW Taigun, the door thud gives a strong feeling of build quality and robustness. The interiors are neatly layered with minimal use of colors. There is use of hard plastics but it could have been improved. The touch and feel of materials are strong and there might be some panel gaps that can be noticed.
- It has great features like ventilated seats and electronic adjustable front seats. It also has climate control that is automatic. It has wireless charging and wireless connectivity for Android Auto and Apple Carplay. But, it could have had more premium features. These include a 360-degree camera, dual-zone climate control, and ADAS for added safety.
- The seats offer good comfort quality with leatherette upholstery. It has ambient lights depending on the variant you choose. It has the segment’s biggest digital instrument cluster that has different view modes depending on the user’s needs.
- The VW Taigun is offered in 2 petrol engines. The 1.0L TSI motor is available from the base model. It is a 3-cylinder engine that makes 115 BHP and 175 Nm of peak torque. It comes with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed Torque Converter automatic gearbox.
- This engine is extremely refined to drive, though some vibrations are felt inside the cabin due to the 3-cylinder effect. The engine performance is brilliant and the power delivery is very smooth. It munches miles without any effort and has a fuel efficiency of approximately 12-14 km/L in city conditions.
- The next engine is the 1.5L TSI EVO motor that is available from the GT variants. It is a 4-cylinder engine that produces 150 BHP with 250 Nm of peak torque. It is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed DSG gearbox. This engine is a sheer joy to drive.
- This engine is extremely powerful and you can feel the power from the initial pull. It has a 2-cylinder mode that cuts off 2-cylinders at city speeds to improve fuel efficiency. On driving it hard and pushing to its limits, it will return in single digits fuel economy but on driving it sedately, it can return 17-18 km/L as well.
- The driving dynamics of the VW Taigun are one of the best in the segment. It has both performance and comfort characteristics that are tuned so perfectly that you can munch miles without any fatigue.
-
The steering wheel has a great feel and feedback on offer. In city conditions, it has a little weight but it is light to maneuver in the city, but on highways, it weighs up to provide feel and feedback while doing triple-digit speeds. It has a top speed of 205 km/H and still provides confidence to push more.
-
The comfort level in the cabin is top quality. The seats offer great comfort and the cabin is wide enough to accommodate 3 passengers in the rear. Though there is a bump in the middle still the cabin has great shoulder room. The rear seats offer ample knee room, and legroom and are a comfortable place to be in.
-
The suspension of the VW Taigun is tuned on the stiffer side, giving it a stiff ride quality. The bad roads and potholes do filter inside the cabin. But, on bends and curves, it maintains its line well. There’s hardly any body roll or up-down movement inside.
