Volkswagen Taigun Facelift: Design Tweaks And A Lot More

The spy shots of the Volkswagen Taigun facelift give you an idea about the real estate that is getting an overhaul, as the front and rear profiles have been camouflaged, which is where the major changes will take place. Coming over first to the front profile, you will get a tweaked bumper along with a new LED headlamp design, which now looks more in line with the latest Tiguan R-Line. This could be Volkswagen's attempt to channelise a uniform design statement across its range, something that has been the latest trend. This also means a new LED DRLs pattern at the job, along with a re-shaped fog-lamp assembly.

Coming to the rear of it, the same story will be carried forward with a redesigned lower bumper and the tail lamp assembly, and the connected pattern could take a new form for distinction. Other than this, the rear section will remain more or less the same with a similar kind of glass area, as evident from the images.

Interior And Features

While interiros steer clear of the cameras this time, it is expected to carry a new upholstery and more features than before, with the highlight being Level-2 ADAS, which up until now has been missing from the Taigun. This wouldn't have been a big omission if the rivals were not offering it in the segment. Also, with the Maruti Victoris coming to the mix soon as well, it could further fuel the feature war amongst other rivals as well. You can expect features like forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, lane-keep assist, lane departure warning, and more.

Powertrain

As far as the engine is concerned, it will remain just as it is, which is also one of its strongest suits. The typical German twins of the 1.0L turbo petrol and the 1.5L turbo petrol are the key selling points of the VAG group cars, and the Taigun is no different. The 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine puts out 115 hp and 178 Nm of torque, and can be had with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. Moving up the range, the 1.5-litre TSI generates 150 hp and 250 Nm, paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch DSG gearbox. Interestingly, industry chatter suggests that an 8-speed automatic could soon replace the current 6-speed unit, and the facelift could get it as well.
As for its launch timeline, it is coming next year in 2026, where it will continue to rival the ever-popular Hyundai Creta, Maruti Grand Vitara, Skoda Kushaq, Honda Elevate, MG Astor, and the upcoming Maruti Victoris.
Verdict
The facelift of the Taigun promises brings in much needed update that will place it back in the main league, which the current model has not been able to achieve, as much as VW would have wanted to. The design is already in the bag and while the German cars are usually associated with a higher maintenance cost in eyes of a regular buyer, they are also a delight for those looking for a perfromance machine. While the latter is something that already checks the box, they do really need to change the brand perception about the former.
