Pros & Cons of Tayron R-Line
What we admire in this car
The 2.0 TSI turbo petrol engine is a hoot to drive. Powerful and torquey!
Tayron offers a very feature rich cabin - large screens, ADAS suite, premium audio!
We love the styling with R-Line treatment and great 19-inch alloy wheels
Pricing is good - only Rs 1 lakh over the smaller 5-seater Tiguan.
The 19-inch wheels do not rob the car of a decent ride. Plus great high speed manners
This is one of the safest cars in the segment and offers Level 2 ADAS and 9 airbags
What could have been better
The last row is strictly for kids and short adults (under 5’4”)
The TSI engine is known to deliver under 6-7 km/l in congested urban usage
No diesel or hybrid on offer - VW was once known for diesel units, not any more though
Though AWD is on offer, this is not an SUV meant for off-roading
Should I buy the Tayron R-Line?
The Volkswagen Tayron is an excellent choice if you want a premium SUV that offers refinement, driving dynamics, and everyday practicality. The Life variant offers the essentials with a capable powertrain and AWD system, while the R-Line adds a more feature-rich cabin along with the extra third row. Both deliver impressive ride comfort, strong performance, and the solid build quality expected from a Volkswagen. Although pricing is on the premium side and the third row is best suited for occasional use, the Tayron remains a solid alternative to traditional ladder-frame SUVs for urban family buyers.
- The Volkswagen Tayron is the extended version of the Tiguan R-Line, as it features a third row of seats in the R-line trim. It looks elegant from all angles and carries a modern, glossy design language that makes it stand out. Curvaceous and bold design elements are the highlights of this vehicle, and the 19-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels look aesthetically pleasing. The Life trim, however, comes with a 5-seat layout
- The front profile is neat and well-executed, featuring LED headlights and connected LED DRLs. The bumper has a glossy finish that adds to its stylish appearance. Below this, a silver skid plate completes the look.
- The side profile features several character lines and a chrome strip that runs along the window line and extends to the tail-lights. That subtle touch enhances its premium appeal compared to more basic SUVs.
- At the rear, it looks similar to many other modern cars and lacks a distinctive feel, as it features connected DRLs and a gloss-finished honeycomb-pattern bumper. As a result, many people may compare it to other mass-market, affordable cars, which could disappoint some owners.
- Another great thing about this SUV is that customers can choose from seven metallic colours: Ultra Violet Metallic, Nightshade Blue Metallic, Cipressino Green Metallic, Oyster Silver Metallic, Dolphin Grey Metallic, Oryx White Mother-of-Pearl Effect, and Grenadilla Black Metallic.
Tayron R-Line body specifications:
| Seating Capacity | 7 seaters |
| Boot Space | 345 liters |

- This SUV is powered by the familiar and proven 2.0L TSI four-cylinder petrol engine, mated to a 7-speed DSG gearbox. It produces 204 PS and 340 Nm of torque. The best part is that it primarily sends power to the front wheels but can intelligently distribute it to the rear wheels depending on traction conditions. This technology is called 4Motion.
- The same engine, with identical power figures, is also available in the Skoda Kodiaq and Tiguan R-Line. However, in the Golf GTI, the output figures are significantly higher.
- The cabin feels thoroughly modern, dominated by a large 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system that offers crisp graphics and seamless connectivity for an intuitive user experience. It serves as the central hub for most vehicle functions. For the lower Life trim, this size shrinks to 12.9 inches.
- Ahead of the driver sits a 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster that provides customizable layouts for navigation, media, and driving information. The display is sharp and easy to read at all times.
- Comfort is enhanced with a 3-zone climate control system that allows the driver, front passenger, and rear occupants to set individual temperatures. This ensures a pleasant environment for everyone on board.
- A panoramic sunroof stretches across the roof, flooding the cabin with natural light and creating an airy, spacious feel. It significantly elevates the premium ambience.
- The front seats offer 12-way power adjustment along with memory, massage, and ventilation functions. These features provide excellent comfort and support, especially on longer journeys.
- Premium leatherette upholstery wraps the seats, adding a sophisticated touch to the interior. The material is both durable and easy to maintain.
- The mood inside the cabin can be customized with 30-colour ambient lighting that enhances the overall atmosphere, particularly during night drives.
- Practicality is boosted by a wireless phone charger that keeps devices powered without messy cables, maintaining a clean and uncluttered centre console.
- An 11-speaker Harman Kardon sound system delivers rich and immersive audio quality throughout the cabin, making every drive more enjoyable. Life variant however, gets an 8-speaker system.
- Equipped with advanced ADAS features, including Park Assist Plus with a 360-degree camera and an Exit Warning System. These technologies make parking, maneuvering, and overall safety more convenient and reassuring for the driver.
Tayron R-Line features:
| TPMS | Yes |
| Wireless Charger | Yes - Front |
| Ventilated Seats | Front Row |
- There is plenty of storage space inside, with large compartments and well-thought-out keeping areas, so you never feel short on room. However, the third row is best suited for children, as the floor is raised and legroom is minimal.
- When it comes to boot space, the Tayron R-Line offers 345 L with all three rows up. Folding the third row increases it to 850 L, and with the second row down, the total space expands to a massive 1,905 L. This makes the SUV highly practical for tasks like moving household items, and even allows for sleeping inside during trips.
