In the base variant, Tata offers several premium features which we don't usually expect, but here the base trim isn't looking half-cooked. First of all, customers have the option to choose three colour options - Royal Blue, Pure Grey and Pristine White. Then, the front end is exactly the same as the top trim with a 3D front grille, but the headlights aren't LED. They are projector-based halogens with follow me home functionality. As usual, no fog lights, and no alloy wheels or plastic cover. However, the steel covers are painted black which appears better than the silver ones.

Interior

Tata Altroz

Altroz facelift interior features an all-black interior with a blacked-out dashboard, seats as well as door trims. Tata is calling it - Premium Granite Black Interior, and from photos, yes it does look attractive. Coming to features on offer - we have the new smart digital steering wheel with controls on the right panel. Plus, all four power windows, a 10.16 cm digital instrument cluster, two drive modes - eco and sport, and for safety there are 6 airbags, which are now made standard across all trims.

There is no infotainment touchscreen but Tata has carved out a special space for the screen, so people who are planning to buy it from local shops can affix it at its designated place, which doesn't disturb the aesthetics of the car. Lastly, the boot space is commendable - 345L with the 1.2L petrol and 210L with the CNG kit.

Verdict

Gone is the age when the base variants used to look like a shallow piece of metal and utterly ugly. Now, automakers are providing several safety features in their base trims, which is because of government pressure but several other important features like all four power windows, digital MID, steering mounted controls, and keyless entry. So, this is all provided in the SMART trim of Altroz and for people who prefer just the car, this is the go-to variant with basic amenities.
