Nissan India New Product Plans; Details

Nissan had earlier shown a teaser of its two new upcoming cars; the MPV and the mid-size segment SUV. The car maker has now also announced a 7-seater SUV which will be joining the lineup in Q1 2027. The MPV will be the first of the three new cars headed our way, and it will be here in the first quarter of 2026.

The car maker has not shared the technical details just yet, but it is already known that the MPV will share the CMF-A platform with the Triber. This MPV will likely borrow the nat-asp petrol powertrain from the current Triber, and we can also expect to see the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol to be featured here as well.

As for the SUVs, the mid-size five-seater SUV, which will come in next by mid-2026 is going to be Nissan's answer to the Hyundai Creta, and it will sit on the CMF-B platform. The car maker says that it will borrow design cues from its big brother, the Patrol. There will also be a 7-seater version of this SUV that will follow in late-2027. Test production for the MPV and the 5-seater SUV has begun at the Chennai plant, and we will likely spot some camouflaged models in the coming weeks.

While the car maker has ruled out diesels completely, it says it continues to explore EVs, CNGs and hybrid powertrain options. As of now, the car maker has added a retrofittable CNG kit to the Magnite, and both its powertrains are now also E20 compliant as well. As for hybrids, the upcoming mid-size SUV could possibly be powered by either a mild-hybrid or a strong-hybrid setup.

Nissan India Future Plans
During a media conference, Saurabh Vatsa, Managing Director, Nissan India, kept reiterating that Nissan is here to stay. This comes following a Renault India's takeover of their joint plant in Chennai, which led to many reports suggesting Nissan's potential exit from the Indian market. The Managing Director has quashed these rumours, thus laying to rest all uncertainties surrounding the Japanese car maker in recent times. He also said that despite the Renault takeover, both partners have a wonderful relationship and production remains unchanged.

The car maker also added that it is open to expanding its CBU business, which was revived by the launch of the X-Trail in 2024. However, it is not looking at local assembly of its global-spec premium cars just yet. All in all, these are interesting times ahead for the Japanese car maker and there is more to come in the near future.
Verdict
Nissan reiterating it is here to stay is honestly a very good sign, given how much fan-following the Japanese car maker enjoys in India. Given that it is also open to bringing in more CBUs., how about bringing in some of the RZ34 Zs here, if it's not too much to ask? (*wink*)
