Mahindra XUV 400 Electric
Mahindra XUV 400 is the EV version of the regular ICE version XUV300. It has a strong charm and characteristics with good looks and ample range for your daily commute. In its recent update, features got updated. Those improvements have now made it a strong contender in the category. It comes in two battery packs. EC is the smaller version, and EL is the bigger version. There is a difference in range, features, and cosmetic looks in both these variants. It mainly rivals the Tata Nexon, MG ZS EV, and Hyundai Kona Electric.

Last Updated on 2nd May'25: The Mahindra XUV400 Electric, based on the XUV300, is set to be replaced by the upcoming Mahindra XUV 3X0 Electric. Currently in the production stage, the new model has been spied multiple times during testing. According to several media reports, its launch is expected in late 2025.
The Mahindra XUV 400 Electric boasts a sleek, muscular body design, featuring Mahindra's signature elements infused with modern EV aesthetics. Although updates on this model are currently unavailable, production of the five-door Thar has commenced at Mahindra's Chakan plant. Unofficial reports have also surfaced regarding this model.

Should I buy the XUV 400 Electric?
The Mahindra XUV400 is a great product in terms of design, performance, and range. It offers some best-in-segment features, such as dual-zone climate control. It also provides best-in-class space. The cabin quality is top class, with soft-touch materials inside. Overall, it’s a good product for consideration. If you're still not convinced about the XUV400, check competitors like the Tata Nexon EV. You could also upgrade your budget for the MG ZS EV.
- The design language of the XUV 400 is almost identical to the regular ICE version. The grill is closed. New copper color elements are added to differentiate it. It has the same placement as the LED headlamps and DRLs are now replaced with copper accents. The throw from these headlights is decent and could have been better.
- Coming to the side profile, it has the same 16” alloys which look nice on this version. The front left fender gets the placement for the charging port which is a thoughtful idea. The dual-tone treatment gives the XUV400 a macho presence.
- At the rear, the design of the taillamps is much more appealing than the regular ICE version. The loading lib is a bit high which makes stuffing luggage in the boot a tedious task. In terms of boot space, it has the best space in its segment. It has a massive 378L of boot space.

- As we step inside the ambiance of the XUV400, there is a sense of premium appeal with sophistication. The all-new dashboard layout has made it more appealing. The addition of new features has made it an attractive deal on offer.
- The dashboard gets a dual-tone treatment which lightens up the ambiance. The presence of the sunroof brings in more light. The dashboard gets a gloss-black treatment. It might become a fingerprint magnet in the long run.
- Now in the update, it gets a new 10.25” touchscreen infotainment. The new infotainment has wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also includes TPMS and many other features. Some cool features like dual-zone climate control and a new instrument cluster are great addition to the competition.
- The Mahindra XUV400 is offered in 2 battery packs, 34.5 kWh and 39.5 kWh in both variants. In addition, it gets two PMSM motors at the front. This results in quick acceleration and a punchier performance.
- The motor has a peak performance of 150 BHP and 310Nm of peak torque. The main concern that comes with an EV is the range.
- The 34.5 kWh battery pack has a claimed range of 375 km. In real life, it would return about 280-325 km of range depending on the driving style and modes you are driving. It has 2 modes on offer that will alter the performance of the motor and the range. The Fun mode is the economy mode, providing most of the range with a sluggish performance. Fast mode is the Sports mode with decent performance and range.
- The 39.5 kWh battery pack has a claimed range of 465 km. In real life, it would return more than 375 km easily. It has 3 modes on offer which will alter the performance of the motor and the range. The Fun mode is the economy mode, providing most of the range with a sluggish performance. Fast mode is the normal mode with decent performance and range. The Fearless mode is the sports mode. It has an aggressive motor response and drains the battery life faster.
- The suspensions of the XUV400 are tuned on the softer side. It absorbs the bumps very well and rides become a bit bouncy on the higher speeds. The body roll is well-contained and is stable around the corners.
- The seating comfort of the XUV400 is top-class. It provides one of the best comforts in its segment. It has great knee, leg, and shoulder room for 3 passengers at the rear.
- The feel and feedback from the steering wheel are decent. In city conditions, it feels lightweight and comfortable to maneuver in the traffic. Taking it on highways and at triple-digit speeds, it weighs up decently well and provides confidence in pushing it hard.
- The XUV400 comes with two battery packs for the customers. With a slow AC Charger, it would roughly take about 13-14 hours to charge. Using a fast DC Charger, it would roughly complete a full charge in 50 minutes using a 50 kW charger.
