Familiar Frame, New Purpose
These patent sketches show how Honda has retained the basic structure of the Shine 100. While the underpinnings and mounts could have been slightly modified to accommodate an electric motor. With this move, Honda aims to cut down the development costs and bring the electric model to the market early. If you go by the patent images, the electric motor is mounted centrally within the frame. A similar layout that we've seen on the ICE two-wheelers. But the difference is that here, the power is sent to the rear wheel with the help of a drive chain. This ensures smoother power delivery and better handling similar to ICE siblings.
Battery And Performance
Instead of placing the battery under the seat or floorboard, Honda housed two removable lithium-ion batteries for added convenience. Interestingly, this design doesn't rely on a liquid cooling system. As you can notice, the gap between the batteries and the motor, which could smartly position the airflow channel. Though the official specs haven't been revealed but Shine is expected to match the performance of its ICE version at least. Going by that, it might go up to a top speed of 80-85 km/h. Moreover, unlike the sibling, it is going to be equipped with a single-speed transmission. While it can offer just enough range for your day-to-day urban commutes.
