Suzuki Avenis vs Honda Activa 125: Specs, Features, & Design Dimension

The Activa is one of the most-sold scooters in India and its 125 cc version is equally popular. Should you still trust this old scooter or choose the new Suzuki Avenis 125?

The Honda Activa was the countrys first BS6-compliant 125cc scooter. It isnt a performative or sporty scooter per se, but with a premium build quality and refined power delivery, the Activa 125 has been the most trusted badge. The 2021 Honda Activa is available in three variants in Standard, Alloy and Disc brake combinations. Prices start from Rs. 76, 337 and goes all the way up to Rs. 83,510, both ex-showroom prices, Delhi.

The newly launched Suzuki Avenis packs in the latest technologies via an all-LCD instrument console with standard Bluetooth connectivity. The body design is sculpted to give away sporty appeal, with cuts and faux air vents. It also packs in a frugal and yet, equally entertaining 125 cc engine, which is also found in the Access 125. However, the Avenis is a bit pricy with a starting ex-showroom from Rs. 86,700 with the Standard edition, and Rs. 87,000 with the Race Edition.

So, which one of them should you buy? Is the economical Activa as sporty on paper, is the Suzuki Avenis way ahead in this matter?

Suzuki Avenis vs Honda Activa 125: Design Dimensions

The Suzuki Avenis boast a completely new design in the Suzukis 125 cc scooter line-up. Although it shares the same underpinnings with Suzuki Burgman Street, the body panels are completely new. Theres a distinct sense of aggressiveness, with the standard dual-tone exterior colour options. There are some faux air vents, along with darkened schematics on the side and cowl cover. The body-clad, broad angular headlamps are all-LED units, and the interesting twin-LED taillights leave a good aftertaste as well. The console head unit gets a small integrated fly-screen that extends across the handlebar like a knuckle guard cover, which also gets integrated bulb indicators.

Suzuki Avenis vs Honda Activa 125

The Avenis is 1895 mm long with a 1265 mm long wheelbase. Its 3 mm wider than the Honda Activa 125 at 710 mm. However, despite its smaller dimensions, the Honda still manages to fit in a marginally bigger fuel tank, and have a good ground clearance at 169 mm. But interestingly, the Honda weighs the most at 111 kgs compared to the Avenis 106 kgs.

The Honda Activa 125 on the other hand is the top-of-the-line Activa model. To further this statement, Honda has given this scooter some premium elements like chrome stylings on the front apron and on the side engine cover. The class-leading fit-and-finish level, along with superior build quality makes up for the rest. Unlike the Avenis, the Activa 125 gets its headlight on the head console unit that houses a dark fly-screen as well. The front indicators are integrated into the chrome details on the front apron, along with the sporty-looking grab rail that completes the Activa 125s looks.

Summary:

The looks of the new Suzuki Avenis is slightly reminiscent of the TVS Ntorq. However, if youre a fan of the Activa, then the Activa 125 is sure to lure you.

Suzuki Avenis vs Honda Activa 125: Engine Specs, Suspensions, Brakes and Tires

The Honda Activa 125 is powered by an absolutely new engine that is built from scratch. The fan-cooled 4 stroke BS6 engine produces 8.29 Ps and 10.3 Nm of torque, and it comes mated to an automatic transmission. The body is suspended on telescopic forks at the front and a 3-step adjustable spring-loaded hydraulics for the rear. The 90/90-12 front tyres and 90/100-10 rear tyres are light and execute their job well to keep the scooter stable around corners. Braking duties are handled by drum brakes on both tyres, along with a single disc brakes option as well.

The Suzuki Avenis, however, is powered by the same 125 cc engine available with both the Suzuki Burgman Street and Access 125. The 124.3 cc, air-cooled, 4-stroke engine produces 8.7 ps and 10 Nm of torque, mated to a CVT transmission. The body is suspended on telescopic suspensions at the front and a single swing arm for the rear wheels. Speaking of which, the Avenis also rides on 90/90-12 front tyres and 90/100-10 rear ones and both are equipped with a combi-brake system, along with a single-disc option.

Summary:

With the 125 cc engine, the Suzuki Avenis makes more sense with its lighter weight compared to the Activa 125, which lacks spontaneity.

Suzuki Avenis vs Honda Activa 125: Features

The Suzuki Avenis is way ahead in this matter. Not only does it get a full-LED instrument cluster, but it also gets Bluetooth connectivity. This brings along features like call/message/WhatsApp alert, turn-by-turn navigation,  Phone battery display, and ETA updates. Other important features include an external fuel filler cap, all-LED headlights and taillights, front box with a USB charging socket.

The Honda Activa 125 is a bit lacking in this matter. For it gets a semi-analogue digital cluster without any connectivity or Bluetooth options. However, the digital screen does display some crucial like distance-to-empty readout, real-time fuel economy stats, and a fuel indicator. Other features include LED headlights with DRLs and a nice pocket located behind the front apron. There are no USB charging points as well, so, the Activa 125 would need an upgrade in this matter.

Summary:

The 2021 Suzuki Avenis is definitely an advanced, modern scooter, especially when compared to the Activa 125.

Verdict

The 2021 Suzuki Avenis is a modern scooter with several elements that make it better-looking than the Activa 125. But on paper, the Honda gets a marginally better engine with more torque power than the Suzuki Avenis. So, the differences on the design front might be quite evident, but on the mechanical front, both the scooter do differ a little. But since we havent road-tested the Suzuki Avenis, we cant come to a conclusive conclusion as of yet. For that, youll have to wait a bit.
