2021 Suzuki Avenis vs TVS Ntorq: Engine Specs, Features, and Design

Suzuki MotorcyclesIndia launched their latest scooter, the Avenis, which directly competes against the TVS Ntorq. Is the new Suzuki scooter a formidable competitor against one of the OGs in the segment? Here is a detailed 2021 Suzuki Avenis vs TVS Ntorq comparison.

The Suzuki Avenis will be the third 125 cc motorcycle on sale after the Burgman Street and Suzuki Access, in the brands line-up. With a starting ex-showroom price from Rs. 86,700, it directly competes against the TVS Ntorque which starts from Rs. 73,270. Is the new Suzuki Avenis that better than the TVS Ntorq? To answer that, we have taken into count the engine specs, features on offer and how both the scooters look like, as parameters for our comparison. Can the Avenis justify its extra price tag? Lets find that out in this 2021 Suzuki Avenis vs TVS Ntorq comparison.

TVS Ntorq vs Suzuki Avenis: Design

2021 Suzuki Avenis vs TVS Ntorq

Both the Suzuki Avenis and TVS Ntorq have a similar front apron layout, as far as the headlight and indicator placements are concerned. Both get an all-LED headlamp unit, and the bulb indicators are nicely tucked into the handlebar cowl, on the Suzuki Avenis along with an integrated fly-screen. The side panels on the front apron also get cuts and slashes for a sporty appeal. The tail section with its split triangular LED tail lamp is reminiscent of the Ntorq's faux rear styling. But with separate indicators, the Avenis separates itself from the Ntorqs integrated ones. On the left-hand side, the sporty-looking exhaust outlet keeps matters aggressive and sporty.

The TVS Ntorq did stand out in the crowd when it was first launched, and it still remains the same. The exterior boasts the same LED headlights with TVS's iconic T-shaped LED DRL - and that itself makes the front apron proportionately better looking than the Avenis. The twin-shaped LED taillights, along with the sturdy body design sure well complements the throaty exhaust note. Both these scooters get their fuel caps fitted outside, and both get dual-tone exterior colour options. However, the Suzuki Avenis gets 21.8-litre under-seat storage, compared to the TVS Ntorq's 22 litres of under-seat storage.

2021 Suzuki Avenis vs TVS Ntorq: Engine Specs and Suspension

Both are powered by a 125 cc engine, but one produces more power and torque than the other. The Avenis shares the same 125 cc mill found in the Suzuki Bergman Street and Access 125. This unit produces 8.7 Ps of power and 10 Nm of torque at 5500 rpm, sending power via a CVT gearbox. The Avenis has the same underpinnings as the Burgman Street. So, it gets a telescopic fork suspension for the front and a single spring shock-absorber for the rear. It rides on 12-inch alloy wheels at the front and 10-inch alloy wheels at the rear.

The TVS Ntorq on the other hand, uses the same 3-valve, 125cc engine that produces 9.38 Ps and 10.5 Nm of torque. Just like the Suzuki Avenis, the Ntorq gets a CVT gearbox as well, and its body is suspended on a telescopic with hydraulic dampers at the front and a single-coil spring for the rear wheels. The TVS Ntorq rides on tubeless 12 tyres, both front and rear.

TVS Ntorq vs Suzuki Avenis: Features

Both the TVS Ntorq and Suzuki Avenis are quite modern in this aspect. Both come with an LCD instrument cluster with a white background display. The LCD unit in the base TVS Ntorq gets multimode displays - Street, Sport, and Ride Stats. Aside from that, theres a total of 60 features that are displayed on the instrument screen. Some of these include voice assist. Bluetooth connected speedometer, auto-sync clocks, phone battery strength display, engine temperature indicator, etc to name a few.

The Suzuki Avenis on the other hand comes with some improvements. Its LCD display unit is the same as the one available with Burgman Street. But unlike the latter, the Avenis comes with smartphone connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation, call/SMS alert, battery level, over-speed alert, among other several features.

Verdict

The new Suzuki Avenis definitely is an improved and up to date bike. It is practical with an external filler fuel cap and has an equally spacious and fully utilisable under-seat boot space of 21.8 litres. When it comes to styling, it looks modern and sporty too. But when compared to the TVS Ntorq, it doesnt feel that different. The TVS scooter gets a more powerful engine and an equally long list of features. But with a cheaper starting ex-showroom price, it gets an important advantage.

However, we havent road-tested the Suzuki Avenis, so without that - we cant say for sure if the extra money is worth it or not. But on paper, the Suzuki does impress, but not by a huge margin.
