Expert Verdict on RC 200

Pros & Cons of RC 200
Design looks very aggressive & youthful
Engine performance is punch-packed
Fuel efficiency is delightful if ridden sedately
Loaded with latest features
Perfect tool for learning track riding basics
Riding posture is very dedicated & uncomfortable for long rides
Pricey in comparison to the rivals
Suspension is too stiff for bad roads
Should I buy the RC 200?
The KTM RC 200 is a true mini sports bike. The design & outlook of it completely justifies the styling aesthetics of the RC series bikes. Also, its dedicated riding position gives a very commanding & thrilling ride experience. However, it is not a very comfortable bike to use for long rides. Also, the engine is punch-packed but it jitters are low revs. Lastly, it is priced at a premium when compared to its rivals. We suggest the RC 200 to those who want a track ride learning tool. It offers a dedicated sports bike experience at a friendly budget.
- The 199.5cc liquid-cooled engine of the RC 200 is a pure gem. It is the most powerful in the segment & the amount of punch it offers is outstanding. The bike does hesitate at the lower revs but past 3,000 rpm it transforms into a bigger sports bike. Also, one can easily ride it in higher gears at low speeds without any snatching of the engine. The engine also doesn’t overheat in traffic. But, we wish the power delivery was more smooth. The current engine tuning is too aggressive for city riding.
- The engine of the RC 200 is surprisingly fuel-economical as well. In our tests, we could easily achieve 40+ kmpl inside the moderate city traffic. If ridden sedately, it can deliver even higher fuel economy figures.
- It can easily cruise around 110-120 kmph out on the highway. But, post 120 kmph the engine feels like running out of breath. Also, there are minor vibrations in the mid-range, especially between 4,000 rpm to 6,000 rpm.
- The brakes of the RC 200 are more than adequate. Being a sports bike, the major use of front disc brake is evident during riding and it does its job very well. During the case of an emergency stop, one can mix the use of rev-matching & brakes to stop it easily.
- The RC 200 features non-adjustable USD forks in the front suspension and a preload adjustable monoshock setup in the rear. KTM has deliberately set up the suspension towards the stiffer side. It is a sports bike & the need of stiff suspension is a must. We like how the suspension works flawlessly on smooth roads. But, on bad roads, it makes the ride very unsettling. We wish the riding position was a bit more relaxed and the suspension was a bit softer at both ends.
- Thanks to the stiff suspension, the handling of RC 200 is among the best. It feels very agile and around the corners, you can easily carry higher speeds. The handling of RC 200 boosts a lot of confidence inside the rider even on unknown roads. The only con is the low set-up of the clip-on handlebar. It becomes uncomfortable to ride it for long durations.
- The design & styling of the RC 200 is inspired by the new RC 390. It uses similar design elements the LED headlight is the same, and the front cowl & fairing is also the same. In fact, the rear design also looks almost the same as the RC 390. It is only the smaller size that differentiates the RC 200 & the RC 390. Also, the colour combo & graphics of the RC 200 are brighter & youthful. Design-wise, it is one of the best bikes in its segment.
- Comfort is something that you should not prioritize while looking to buy the RC 200. The riding position is very aggressive & dedicated like a true sports bike. Also, the seat has less cushioning and thus riding it for long hours is a tough task. The rear-set front footpegs also lead to early fatigue during long rides.
RC 200 body specifications:
| Ground Clearance | 156 mm |

- KTM has packed the RC 200 with cutting-edge features. It includes Bluetooth connectivity, a TFT console, a multi-info display, call/SMS alerts, and more. The LED lights provide excellent illumination at night.
- Additionally, the 17-inch lightweight alloy wheels and adjustable rear suspension boost performance speed.
- For rider safety, KTM also offers dual-channel ABS & SuperMoto ABS (switchable rear ABS) on the RC 200. However, it misses out on the slipper-assist clutch that its rivals offer. Also, the larger front disc brake helps stop the bike easily in emergencies.
