Last Updated On 11th Mar'26: Renault has unveiled the Bridger Concept, previewing a new sub-4-metre compact SUV that is expected to arrive in India by 2027. The concept showcases a rugged, boxy design with off-road-inspired elements such as prominent cladding, squared wheel arches and a tailgate-mounted spare wheel. Renault claims the SUV will focus on practicality, offering generous rear-seat space along with around 400 litres of boot capacity. The production model is expected to be developed and manufactured in India, which will also serve as an export hub for global markets. In line with Renault’s future strategy, the Bridger could be offered with multiple powertrain options, including petrol, hybrid and potentially fully electric variants.

Design: The Bridger Concept adopts a rugged, upright SUV stance with squared wheel arches, chunky cladding and a high ground-clearance look. Design highlights include illuminated Renault branding and a tailgate-mounted spare wheel, giving it a strong off-road inspired identity. This vehicle will have length of less than 4000 mm, so it will be a direct rival of Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue and Skoda Kylaq.

 Platform: The upcoming SUV is expected to be underpinned by Renault Group’s modular small-car architecture designed for multiple powertrain configurations. This platform will allow Renault to develop the model for both domestic and international markets.

Expected Powertrain: Renault is likely to offer a mix of petrol and electrified powertrain options to suit different market requirements. Considering its size, it is likely to be powered by a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine producing 100PS and 160Nm of peak torque with the 5-speed manual, and 152Nm with the CVT. This engine is currently offered in the Renault Kiger. Hybrid and fully electric versions are also being considered as part of the brand’s broader electrification strategy. 

Space & Practicality: Despite its compact footprint, the SUV is expected to prioritise interior space and everyday practicality. Renault is aiming to offer generous rear-seat space along with strong practicality, with the production model expected to provide around 400 litres of boot capacity to better suit family buyers.

Launch Timeline: The production-spec version is expected to arrive later this decade, with India among the first launch markets. The model will also play a role in Renault’s global expansion plans, with exports to several regions.
