Mahindra Thar Facelift Old Vs New; Design

You will be hardpressed to differentiate this Thar from the pre-facelift model. The grille, which is always a... erm, an attention-grabber, for the lack of a better word, now gets body-coloured treatment, as opposed to the black and grey treatment on the older colour.

The bumpers on the Thar facelift get the dual-tone light grey treatment as well. The rear, and the rest of the car are left untouched, keeping the visuals unmistakable and familiar. Even the 5-spoke alloy rims have not been tampered with, and it continues to sit on 18-inch alloy rims.
Mahindra Thar Facelift Old Vs New; Interior And Features

The insides of both the outgoing Thar and the facelifted version come with far more noticeable changes. While the centre console remains largely familiar, the most obvious change is the larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system replacing the erstwhile 7-inch unit, which had really started to show its age over the years. The steering wheel has also been lifted off of its big brother, the Thar Roxx.

While entering the rear is still going to be a task for most passengers, things will be a bit more comfortable once you do get in, thanks to the addition of rear A/C vents. While it remains to be seen how effective they are in daily conditions, it is no doubt a relief for those who will be subjected to the rear cabin of the Thar.
Some other feature additions also include a reverse parking camera with guidelines, an internally-opening fuel lid, a rear wiper/washer, rear defogger. The power window switches have also been re-arranged, now rightfully sitting in the respective door slots. Also, unlike the Roxx, the Thar retains the twin dial instrument cluster, which look better than an all-digital unit any day.
Mahindra Thar Facelift Old Vs New Powertrains

No changes have been made under the hood and to the mechanicals of the Thar facelift, as it remains identical to the outgoing car in these aspects. The 1.5-litre diesel engine is the same on the AXT and the 4x2 variant of the LXT trim. Paired to a 6-speed manual transmission only, this engine produces 116.9bhp and 300Nm of torque.
The LXT 4x4 variants come with two options. The 2.0-litre, turbo petrol engine produces 150bhp and 300-320Nm of torque, with the 6-speed manual and the 6-speed torque converter automatic respectively. The 2.2-litre diesel engine pushes out 130bhp and 300Nm of torque, paired to the same transmission options as the petrol.
Verdict
With the Thar facelift, Mahindra has heard feedback from its customers and implemented changes accordingly. The changes might be subtle, but they will make their impact felt, and the car maker has made sure to not to tamper too much with the car.
