KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Yamaha's first electric scooter for the Indian market
  • Priced at Rs 1.68 lakhs ex-showroom

Yamaha has officially taken its first step into India's electric two-wheeler segment with the launch of the EC-06 at Rs 1.68 lakhs, marking a significant shift in the brand's long-term mobility strategy. Developed specifically for urban use, the EC-06 comes with Yamaha's familiar sporty design cues with a practical electric platform aimed at daily commuters. While it shares its mechanical foundation with the River Indie, Yamaha has reworked the styling, feature set, and overall positioning to carve out its own identity in the fast-growing electric scooter space. In this section, read on to find out its key features and how the rivals fare against it in the class, but before that, make sure to join the 91wheels WhatsApp Community, specifically curated for petrolheads like us to keep up with the latest news and automotive updates.

1. Three Ride Modes

With the introduction of the Yamaha CE-06, the brand has taken a safer route by tweaking the River Indie scooter, which is essentially its twin. The scooter is fairly equipped and comes with three ride modes, namely- Eco, Standard, and Power. It also gets a dedicated Reverse mode, which makes it easier to maneuver the scooter.

  • Rivals With Same Features:
  • Ather 450X offers four ride modes- Eco, Ride, Sport, Warp
  • TVS IQube also comes with two ride modes- Eco and Power

2. Fully Digital TFT Display

In line with the modern electric scooter, the Yamaha EC-06 offers a fully digital TFT display that displays all the essential ride-related stats like distance, battery status as well as Bluetooth notifications. Moreover, it also supports Yamaha Motor Connect App so that riders can access information through their smartphones as well.

  • Rivals With Same Features:
  • Ather 450X offers a fullt digital LCD display with a much more comprehensive features list and also a touchscreen set-up
  • TVS Iqube also offers a fully digital cluster but with more features

3. Front & Rear Disc Brakes

Another area where the Yamaha EC-06 deals a better hand is in its safety net. The scooter comes with disc brake set-up for both its front and rear wheels, with a generous 200mm disc size, inspiring a more confident braking for the 14-inch alloy wheels. While the rivals also offer disc brake set-ups, not everyone offers it for both wheels.

  • Rivals With Same Features:
  • Ather 450X also offers disc brakes at both wheels
  • TVS iQube offers a front disc but misses out on the rear wheel disc, where it offers only a drum brake set-up

4. LED Headlamp

The new Yamaha scooter shares a lot of cues with the River Indie scooter and while it resembles the placement of the headlamp, it offers a slightly different design than the twin. Notably, the headlamp is an LED unit along with its tail lamp as well, something that all of its rival now offers.

Rivals With Same Features- All the rivals come with an LED set-up, which is now becoming a standard offering across the segment.

Verdict

The Yamaha EC-06 is best viewed as a thoughtfully reworked electric scooter rather than a ground-up reinvention. It leans into Yamaha's sporty brand image while retaining the practicality needed for everyday urban use. Strong range figures, solid performance for city riding and a comprehensive feature list make it a compelling option for buyers stepping into premium electric scooters. That said, the fixed battery setup and smaller underseat storage mean it won't appeal to everyone, especially those scouting for convenience and outright utility. If your daily usage involves predictable commutes, overnight charging access and a preference for sharper styling over maximum storage, the EC-06 fits the bill neatly.
