Since the gradual phasing out of scooters and then their re-incarnation in present times has carved out a renewed interest for them, the Iconic Bajaj Sunny is looking to make a comeback.

Yes, but with a twist, which is skipping a combustion engine while rolling with an electric motor. Let's look at what the test mule of the same gives away.

Bajaj Sunny To Re-Enter In An Electric Avatar

The upcoming scooter design appears to pay homage to the original Sunny scooter. It showcases a round headlamp, a spacious front fender, a slim floorboard, and a boxy tail lamp, echoing the distinctive styling of the original model. Much like its predecessor, the new scooter is expected to be compact and endearing, with other resemblances, such as the three-spoke wheels, trailing arm front suspension, drum brakes, and even the rear grab handle or carrier.

The test mule is equipped with a hub motor and appears to be built on a distinct platform compared to the larger Bajaj Chetak. It is speculated that the new Bajaj Sunny might utilize the Yulu platform, a fully Bajaj-developed platform. Currently, the Yulu platform serves as the foundation for vehicles like the Dex GR, primarily designed for last-mile delivery, and the Miracle GR, intended for personal use.

The original Sunny was equipped with a modest 60cc two-stroke engine that produced under 3 horsepower. With the shift to electric power, the new Sunny is likely to deliver comparable performance, aligning with its predecessor's modest power output.

As per the source, the vehicle captured in the photographs exhibited brisk acceleration as it swiftly accelerated away from the traffic lights, reaching speeds of approximately 40-50 kilometers per hour.
