California-based Zero Motorcycles is now coming to India in partnership with Hero Motocorp. Zero Motorcycles is a leading electric 2-wheeler manufacturer in America which is now looking to spread its wings in the Indian market. On the flip side, Hero bags yet another EV vehicle partnership and is aiming to slowly turn into a dark horse in the EV two-wheeler segment.

Let's look at the details of this development.

Zero Motorcycles: Indian- American Partnership In India

According to Hero MotoCorp's annual report, Indian enthusiasts can look forward to accessing high-performance electric machines manufactured by Zero Motorcycles in the near future. However, the report does not provide an exact timeline for the launch at this point in time. Since the market is quite receptive at the moment, the launch will take place very soon.

It is interesting to know that Hero Motocop currently has a 35 % stake in Ather Energy, famous for its electric scooters. And now with this, Hero has an electric motorcycle partner as well. Moreover, the direct competitor at this point in time is the Ultraviolette F77 electric bike in the premium segment. Hero-Zero will aim first at this segment and then eventually move into the more affordable segment so as to position itself among the premium brands.

Bikes Coming To India And Expected Price

There is a confirmation of a future launch and that's about it. No details are revealed and of course, it is a bit of a task. Since Zero Motorcycles has a range of street and Dual-Sport options, selecting the Indian portfolio is an uphill task. What adds to the woes is keeping the price point in check. Importing a vehicle in India attracts a 100% duty, making it unreasonably expensive. This is where Hero Motocorp can help with locally assembling and manufacturing machinery.

Meanwhile, in order to get an idea as to what the Zero Motorcycles do, let's take the example of Zero SR/F. The Zero SR/F features a 110 hp peak power and a robust 190 Nm maximum torque. Its 14.4 kWh battery pack allows for an impressive city range of 198 km. It gets a top speed up to 124 mph (200 km/h), max top speed and 110 mph (177 km/h) sustained top speed.

However, since the price point of Zero's lineup range from 10,000$- 25,000$ i.e Rs. 10.64 lakhs- Rs. 20.46 lakhs, it remains to seem as to how they pull these under an expectable and reasonable limit for the Indian price-sensitive market.

Verdict

The Zero-Hero partnership will help both the entities to have a piece of the growing Indian EV 2-wheeler market. While Hero gets a reputed product in partnership, Zero gets the vast last mile connectivity of Hero dealerships. Need more latest updates like these?
