Should I buy the SR 175?
If you're in the market for a stylish, sporty, and tech-loaded scooter for daily commutes and spirited rides, the Aprilia SR 175 fits the bill perfectly. At Rs. 1.26 lakh, it’s priced competitively against the Yamaha Aerox 155 and Hero Xoom 160, yet offers a unique European flair and the brand appeal of Aprilia. All the new upgrades and aggressive design make it an attractive choice for young riders or those upgrading from a 110cc/125cc scooter. However, if comfort and underseat practicality are top priorities, other options may serve you better.
- While the overall design mirrors the outgoing SR 160, Aprilia has added more flair through RS 457-inspired liveries like Matte Prismatic Dark and Glossy Tech White, complemented by bold red alloy wheels.
- The aggressive stance, carbon-fibre-finished front fender, split seat, and upswept exhaust retain the SR family’s sporty character.
- LED lighting all around and a revised graphics scheme help the SR 175 remain visually fresh and appealing for younger riders.
- The new 5-inch TFT dash borrowed from Aprilia’s bigger 457 siblings adds a premium touch, complete with Bluetooth support via the Aprilia app for calls, music, and notifications.
- The display also offers multiple layout options and backlight customization, improving usability during varied riding conditions.
- LED headlamps, indicators and tail lamps ensure modern lighting performance, while a USB charger and under-seat utility light add daily practicality.
- Despite being a scooter, it packs features often reserved for bigger bikes, enhancing its value proposition in the segment.
- The new 174.7cc air-cooled engine delivers 12.92 hp and 14.14 Nm, a noticeable upgrade from the SR 160’s figures.
- A wider bore allows for improved acceleration and mid-range performance, making it more suited for both city zips and occasional open-road sprints.
- Paired with a refined CVT, it offers smooth power delivery and quicker throttle response, giving it an edge in urban riding dynamics.
- The engine is not about top-end thrills but excels in torque-rich, usable city performance.
SR 175 engine specifications:
| Transmission | Automatic |
| Engine | 174.7 cc |
- The SR 175 retains the SR 160’s underpinnings - steel frame, telescopic front forks, and rear monoshock.
- 14-inch 10-spoke alloy wheels with wide 120-section tyres provide a stable and planted ride, even over rough patches and potholes.
- The scooter’s sporty suspension setup continues to offer sharp handling and decent comfort for daily commutes.
- At city speeds, its nimbleness shines, though the firm ride might feel a bit stiff over prolonged bumpy roads.
- Equipped with a 220mm ventilated front disc brake with single-channel ABS and a rear drum, the SR 175 offers solid braking performance for urban duties.
- The ABS system enhances safety in wet or unpredictable road conditions, though dual-channel ABS would’ve raised the bar.
- Brake lever feedback is progressive and predictable, allowing riders to modulate braking easily.
- The LED headlamp and overall visibility aids in safe night riding, though a larger under-seat storage would have added more practicality.
