Kia Syros - 465 litre

Syros

One of the most well-engineered sub-4 metre SUVs on sale in India, the Kia Syros has a unique way of expanding the standard boot space of 390 litres to 465 litres, and here's how it is done. From the HTK (EX) onwards, the third variant in the lineup, Kia offers rear seats with slide and recline functions. So, if the luggage quantity is huge and it all needs to fit in the rear, after sliding the seats forward, the boot space increases from 390 L to 465 L, making it the biggest space on offer on our list.

This particular variant, the HTK (EX) starts at Rs 9.79 lakh (ex-showroom), but the starting price of Kia Syros is Rs 8,39,900 (ex-showroom).

Skoda Kylaq - 446 litre

The actual number one on the list is the Skoda Kylaq, because it offers 446 litres of boot space, which is exceptionally large for its segment. It can easily accommodate 3 to 4 large suitcases along with 2-3 backpacks.

The Kylaq is built on the same platform as the Skoda Kushaq and Skoda Slavia, meaning the underpinnings are shared. That is how Skoda has managed to carve out a massive 446-litre boot space despite the SUV measuring under 4 metres in length.

It starts at Rs 7.59 lakh (ex-showroom) and is offered with a single 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, paired with either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox.

Renault Kiger- 405 litre

The Renault Kiger is available in four core variants - emotion, techno, evolution, and authentic. It comes with a starting price tag of Rs 5.80 lakh and goes up to Rs. 10.33 lakh. The Kiger SUV is offered with two powertrain options- a 1 litre NA engine that produces 72 ps and 6 Nm and a 1 litre turbo petrol engine which is capable of producing 100 PS and 160 Nm. The 1-litre unit gets a 5-speed manual or AMT transmission while the 1-litre turbo unit comes linked to a 5-speed manual or a CVT unit.

In terms of features, the Kiger gets an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple Car Play, a 7-inch digital driver's display, push-button start/stop, auto-dimming IRVM and automatic climate control.

Hyundai Exter - 391 Litre

The Hyundai Exter is one of the most value-for-money cars in its segment. It is available in 32 variants. The Hyundai Exter sources its power from a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine that produces 83 PS of power and 114 Nm of torque and comes mated to a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT unit. The Exter is also available in a CNG version which has a claimed fuel efficiency of 27.1 km per kg.

As far as the features are concerned, the Hyundai Exter has an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple Car Play. In addition to this, it gets cruise control. wireless charging, Automatic climate control and dual dash cam.

Kia Sonet- 392 litre

The Kia Sonet is a premium compact SUV offered by the automaker. It comes with a starting price tag of Rs 7.31 lakh (ex-showroom) which goes up to Rs. 15.77 lakh (ex-showroom) in India. The Sonet is available in three powertrain options- 1.2 litre NA engine (83 PS & 115 Nm), 1-litre turbo petrol (120 PS and 172 Nm) and 1.5-litre diesel unit (116 PS and 250 Nm).

The Sonet compact SUV offers features such as a dual 10.25-inch display ( infotainment display and digital driver's display). Other features of the SUV include a single pane sunroof, ventilated seats, air purifier, auto climate control, 7-speaker Bose Audio and connected car tech.

Tata Nexon- 382 litre

The Tata Nexon is one of the most popular sub-compact SUVs in India. It is offered in four variants in India- Smart, Pure, Creative and Fearless and then there are sub-trims of each variant. The Nexon gets two engine options- a 1.2-litre engine that comes mated to a 5-speed manual (base variant), and higher variants get a 6-speed manual, AMT or 7-speed DCT unit.

There's also an option of a 1.5-litre diesel engine, mated to 6-speed manual or AMT unit. The Tata Nexon starts at Rs 7.36 lakh (ex-showroom) which goes up to 13.91 lakh (ex-showroom) in India.

On the feature front, the Tata Nexon gets a dual 10.25-inch display (infotainment display and driver's display) and automatic climate control. Other features of the Nexon SUV include ventilated front seats, wireless charging, rear AC vents and a 360-degree camera.

Hyundai Venue - 375 litre

hyundai venue

The all-new Hyundai Venue has grown in size, as it is built on the new Hyundai-Kia K1 platform, and its boot capacity has also increased. It now offers 375 litres of boot space, which is an increase of 25 litres. This makes it spacious enough to accommodate 2-3 large suitcases along with a few smaller bags.

Additionally, with the new platform, the wheelbase has increased, making the interior feel more spacious, with ample legroom, shoulder room, and headroom. Loaded with features, this is one of the most well-sorted SUVs currently on sale in India.

Hyundai Venue starts at Rs 7.99 lakh (ex-showroom) and is available in total 35 variants.

Cars That Didn't Make It To The List

Cars like the Maruti Suzuki Brezza and Maruti Suzuki Fronx did not make it to this list mainly because of their comparatively lower boot space capacity. The Brezza offers 328 litres of boot space, while the Fronx provides 308 litres, which is lower than several rivals in the segment.

Although both SUVs deliver good fuel efficiency, reliable engines, and practical features, buyers looking for better luggage-carrying capacity for long family trips may find these figures slightly limiting. This is the primary reason why these otherwise well-rounded products missed out on the list.
