On Target

Compact yet premium, Sonet blends style, features, and performance for urban SUV buyers.

What We Like

Sonet offers a feature-rich cabin. Plenty of engine options to choose from: petrol, turbo petrol and diesel units. Offers impressive mileage on highways. Interior feels premium among the rivals.

What We Do Not Like

The suspension setup feels a bit stiff. It doesn't offer any factory-fitted CNG option. The 1.0-litre turbo petrol feels a bit laggy initially. Second row might feel little cramped with three adults.

Pros & Cons of Sonet

What we admire in this car

It has become more stylish than its previous generation

The car comes with features like a 360-degree camera, a 4-way powered driver seat, a BOSE 7-speaker sound system, auto-dimming IRVM, wireless charging, and more.

The design includes a dual-screen connected panel with a full digital cluster. It has a 10.25-inch color LCD MID and a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment.

It is available with 3 engine options: 1.2-litre NA petrol, 1.0-litre turbo petrol, and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. The HTK+ variant is available with all three engine options making it a good option.

Diesel engine is available starting from the base HTE variant

Different types of transmission options are available depending on the engine. The DCT gearbox is available starting with the HTX variant at Rs 12.29 lakh.

The interior comes with an option of 5 colour themes and offers a premium feel

The car is loaded with a number of safety features. It includes 15 standard safety features. These include 6 airbags, ESP, VSC, Hill-hold assist, ABS, Brake Assist, and more.

Level-1 ADAS features add extra safety. They include Front Collision Warning (FCW). They also include Leading vehicle departure alert, Lane Departure Warning, Lane keep assist, and more.

The base variant comes with a decent number of safety features and an attractive price tag

What could have been better

No automatic transmission with the 1.2-litre NA petrol engine

The lower models lack features. The company only reserves most of the good features for the higher variants.

GTX+ & X-Line variants are the only ones that have ADAS.

The turbo petrol engine does not offer a complete manual transmission. Instead, it comes with a clutchless manual transmission. This might not appeal to some customers.

The dual-tone color option is not available until the HTX+ variant

The 10.25-inch infotainment does not support Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The top-of-the-line X-line trim comes with a high price tag specially with diesel engine

The 1.2-litre petrol engine is available in three variants only

Should I buy the Sonet?

If you're looking for a family SUV under Rs 16 lakh, packed with features, consider the KIA Sonet. The updated Sonet features new design elements and added features. It also has enhanced safety measures, and notably, ADAS for increased safety. The Sonet offers comfort tailored to the buyer's preferences. It has multiple engine options, paired with a variety of gearbox choices. However, if your priority leans towards mileage or a CNG powertrain, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza is a suitable alternative.
