The Kia Sonet gets not one or two but three different engine options. First of all, there is a BS6 compliant 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine. This naturally-aspirated petrol motor churns out 83 PS of power and 114 Nm of peak torque. This engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox only and while it doesn’t offer spirited driving performance, it just does the job well. If you are on a budget, you can consider this powertrain option. Next, there is a powerful BS6 compliant 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine. This turbo petrol motor churns out 120 PS of maximum power and 172 Nm of peak torque. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed iMT (Intelligent Manual Transmission) and a 7-speed DCT (dual-clutch transmission). There is no proper manual gearbox on offer with this engine. The turbo-petrol mill of the Sonet offers excellent performance and if you are someone who loves driving, you should get this one.
Finally, Kia is also offering a diesel engine with this sub-compact SUV. It needs to be mentioned that very few compact SUVs offer a diesel mill and the Sonet is one of them. The Sonet gets a BS6 compliant 1.5-litre diesel engine that churns out 100 PS of maximum power and 240 Nm of peak torque. This engine comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. Kia also offers a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission with the diesel engine of the Sonet and the Kia Sonet’s Diesel AT version develops 115 PS of maximum power with 250 Nm of peak torque. The diesel version of the Kia Sonet can be an ideal pick for one who has to cover frequent long-distance journeys and these diesel powertrains offer great performance along with impressive mileage.
Kia is offering multiple powertrain options with the Sonet and so there is one Sonet for everyone. However, if you want a powerful engine, the turbo petrol motor should be your pick.
The Kia Sonet is a handsome looking sub-compact SUV and there are no two ways about it. The Sonet gets Kia’s signature tiger-nose grille flanked by all-LED headlights. It even gets hook-shaped integrated LED DRLs and there are LED fog lamps too. At the front, the Sonet gets various sporty inserts like the red-colour treatment on the grille and bumper in the GT line trims. Recently, Kia revealed its new corporate logo and brand slogan that reads Movement That Inspires and this new logo can be now seen on the Sonet too. Moving to the side profile, one can see that the Sonet gets stylish machined-cut dual-tone alloy wheels and even functional roof rails.
At the rear, the Sonet gets a LED taillamp with a red-coloured strip that connects both the tail lamps, however, it is not an illuminating strip. The Kia Sonet gets body-cladding all-around with faux skid plates at the front and the rear to give this sub-compact SUV a more rugged appeal. All in all, the Sonet is a wonderful package and though it may not look butch or very robust, it still has a great road presence. The Kia Sonet is currently available in a total of 12 colour options, out of which seven are mono-tone shades and three are dual-tone colours. The mono-tone colour shades of the Sonet are Intense Red, Glacier White Pearl, Steel Silver, Aurora Black Pearl, Beige Gold, Gravity Gray and Intelligence Blue. The dual-tone colour variants are Beige Gold with Aurora Black Pearl, Glacier White Pearl with Aurora Black Pearl and Intense Red with Aurora Black Pearl.
The Kia Sonet attracts eyeballs out on the streets and its youthful design language has won it plenty of takers in the Indian market.
Just like its snazzy exteriors, the Kia Sonet has welcoming interiors too. The new Kia Sonet gets an all-black cabin with sporty red accents in the top-spec GT line trims. Taking the centre stage of its dashboard is a 10-25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. It even gets Kia’s UVO connected car technology that offers more than 57 connected car features. Some other key features of this sub-compact SUV include an electric sunroof, a digital instrument cluster, premium BOSE sound system, smart air purifier, ventilated front seats, ambient lighting and much more. Talking about the Sonet’s seats, the front seats of the Sonet are very comfortable and they snug you well. There is an ample amount of space at the rear too, however, sitting three adults will be a tight fit.
Kia is known to offer segment-best features in their cars and the Sonet is no different. It is packed with several best-in-class features including a massive touchscreen system.
The Kia Sonet is a sub-4-metre compact SUV and so it has a length of 3995 mm, its width is 1790 mm and the car stands 1647 mm high. The Sonet has a 2500 mm wheelbase which ensures plenty of space inside the cabin for the passengers and the 211 mm ground clearance is also more than enough to tackle poor speed breakers and rough patches of road. Its boot space is 392 litres and so you can easily carry your luggage for weekend getaways.
Kia Sonet has good proportions. Its class-leading wheelbase ensures enough room inside the cabin and it has more than enough ground clearance too.
The Kia Sonet offers great performance but is it fun to drive? The answer is Yes. Kia Sonet has great ride and handling characteristics and it is certainly much more engaging to drive than most of its rivals. The Sonet is a better handling car and it is a hoot to drive around corners, thanks to its slightly stiff suspension. It feels quite stable at highway speeds too and lets you enjoy its potent motor. Also, among both the petrol and the diesel models, it is the turbo petrol variant of the Sonet which is most exciting to drive. The Kia Sonet doesn’t offer great steering feedback, however, its light steering helps to manoeuvre this car inside the city effortlessly. The Sonet even gets drive modes which do help a bit as the Sport mode brings in some artificial heft to the steering wheel. The body roll is very well contained and overall, it is a very fun to drive SUV.
Kia Sonet offers a great mix of ride and handling and it is a very fun to drive car. It handles pretty well even on twisties and feels quite stable at triple digit speeds.
If we talk about safety features on offer, the Kia Sonet gets dual front airbags, reverse parking sensors, ABS with EBD, seat belt reminders, a high-speed alert system, etc. as standard across the range from the base variant. However, the top-spec variants get up to six airbags, ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution) and Brake Assist, front and rear parking sensors along with rear parking camera. The Sonet also gets ESC (Electronic Stability Control), HSA (Hill-Start Assist Control), VSM (Vehicle Stability Management), cruise control and a host of other features. However, it has not been crash-tested by the Global NCAP yet.
Kia Sonet gets a host of safety features in the top-end variants and basic safety features in lower trims. However, it has not been crash tested yet.

Sonet has great features, but the mileage is very poor. Uvo connect and voice recognition is a total failure. It does not understand maximum times what I say, and keeps indicating to shut windows to minimize cabin sound inspite of the windows are closed.
An excellent vehicle with comfort and low noise. Easy to handle and easy to drive. Good for long distance journey. The AC is very good and powerful. No power train while driving. Good on highways. Better in city rides. The boot space is good for a family of four. It is a very good SUV
