With these additions, the Sonet becomes the first SUV in its segment to offer both a diesel 6-speed automatic and a turbo-petrol 7DCT below Rs 10 lakh, further expanding automatic accessibility in the compact SUV space. The diesel automatic is now available across HTE(O), HTK(O), HTK+, and HTK+ (O) trims, while the turbo-petrol 7DCT can be had in HTK(O) and HTK+(O) variants.

Kia says the move responds to the growing preference for automatic vehicles, especially in urban areas where increasing traffic congestion is pushing buyers toward more convenient and less fatiguing driving experiences. By widening the availability of automatic trims, the company aims to bring automatic ownership within reach of a broader set of customers.
Commenting on the update, Atul Sood, Senior Vice-President, Sales & Marketing, Kia India, said the company has been closely monitoring customer preferences and noticed a clear shift toward automatic transmissions in everyday driving conditions.

New Colour - Magma Red
Alongside the powertrain expansion, Kia has also introduced a new "Magma Red" exterior colour, aimed at enhancing the Sonet's youthful and bold design appeal. Launched in 2020, the Sonet has become one of Kia's most successful products in India, recently crossing the 5-lakh sales milestone. The compact SUV continues to offer multiple powertrain options, along with features such as Level-1 ADAS technology, 70+ connected car features, and 15 standard safety features, helping it remain competitive in the highly contested sub-4-meter SUV segment.

Verdict
The MY26 update for the Kia Sonet focuses primarily on expanding the availability of automatic transmissions across more variants. By introducing the diesel 6-speed automatic and turbo-petrol 7DCT at prices below Rs 10 lakh, Kia aims to make automatic options accessible to a wider set of buyers in the compact SUV segment. While the update does not bring major design or mechanical changes, it strengthens the Sonet's value proposition for customers looking for the convenience of automatic driving in everyday city conditions.
