KEY HIGHLIGHTS
- Kia Sonet 2nd generation spied testing for the first time ever
- Will be built on the Hyundai-Kia K2 platform
- 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels visible
The Kia Sonet, the first sub-4 metre SUV from Kia India, will soon enter its second generation, and its testing has begun in India. It was recently spied fully covered in camouflage, and apart from the alloy wheels and window lines, nothing is visible to make anything out of it. However, its launch is confirmed for 2027, so we'll be seeing a lot more of it from now on. Let's begin, and in the meantime, do join our 91Wheels Whatsapp Channel to never miss the latest automotive updates.

Kia Sonet

The upcoming Kia Sonet will be an all-new car built on the new K1 platform, a stronger, more versatile, and longer platform. This translates into the Sonet being longer, wider, and potentially eligible for a 5-star rating at Global NCAP. That said, it will still remain a sub-4 meter compact SUV so that it stays affordable for a large number of buyers. The spy shots do not reveal much, as almost every part of the car is covered with camouflage, leaving very little visible to make anything out of it. Apart from the grille at the centre, we predict it to feature LED headlamps similar to those on the new Kia Seltos. However, they do not appear to have the signature ice-cube shape; instead, they seem more curvy or less square, whichever way you would like to describe them
Above them, the glowing LED DRLs are visible, revealing another design element of the car. Moreover, the other clearly visible feature is the dual-tone alloy wheels, most likely 17-inch units. This particular alloy wheel design is very typical of Kia and assures us that this is a Kia car and not a Hyundai model. Apart from that, a sunroof and shark-fin antenna can also be seen. So, these are the points we could gather from this spied test mule for now.
Powertrain-wise, we expect no changes, as even the current Hyundai Venue continues with the same setup - two petrol engines and one diesel engine. Feature front it will be having large 12.5 inch infotainment screens and 12.5 inch MID, ADAS, 360-parking camera, Bose premium audio, and front ventilated seats.

Verdict
Overall, the next-generation Kia Sonet appears to be a major evolution rather than just a simple update. With a new platform, fresh design language, and the possibility of improved safety, Kia seems focused on making the Sonet even more competitive in the compact SUV segment. Although the test mule reveals very little for now, the early signs already look promising.
