BMW i5
The BMW i5 is a premium electric executive sedan positioned as the EV counterpart to the 5 Series, aimed at buyers who want traditional luxury sedan appeal with modern electric performance. It immediately stands out for its powerful dual-motor setup and smooth, silent driving experience, delivering quick acceleration while maintaining the refined character expected from a BMW sedan.
At the same time, it offers a spacious, tech-rich cabin with the BMW Curved Display, advanced driver assistance systems, and strong long-distance comfort, making it ideal for both daily commuting and highway travel. The overall package feels futuristic yet familiar. That said, its high price and reliance on charging infrastructure may be considerations for some buyers.
BMW i5 Latest Update
Last Updated on 25th Apr'25: BMW i5 launched in 2024, hasn’t received any update - and it continues to sell with the same 83.9 kWh battery pack - making 601 hp and 795 Nm of torque, sending all this to every wheel. The range as per WLTP is 516 km.
The BMW i5 perfectly balances elegance and sportiness, featuring the signature BMW kidney grille and a sleek, sloping roofline. Although there haven't been recent updates on this model, BMW has shown interest in the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N's simulated gear shifts, artificial exhaust notes, and drift mode. It's likely we will see similar elements in future BMW EVs.

Latest Updates on i5
BMW has launched the i5 M60 xDrive in India at Rs 1.20 crore (ex-showroom), positioning it as a high-performance electric luxury sedan above the i4. It is powered by an 83.9 kWh battery pack with dual motors producing around 601 hp and 795 Nm, enabling strong performance along with a top speed of 230 km/h.
BMW is planning to expand the i5 lineup in India with two more affordable variants by late 2025, making the electric sedan more accessible to a wider audience. Currently available only in the top-spec M60 xDrive variant, the i5’s high price limits its reach. The upcoming variants are expected to lower the entry price significantly, likely sitting well below the current flagship version.
BMW has opened bookings for the i5 M60 xDrive in India ahead of its launch, with the model to be offered only in the top-spec performance variant initially. The electric sedan will be brought as a CBU import in limited numbers, making early bookings crucial for interested buyers.
