BMW i5 LWB Unveiled in India: Expected Price, Range and Key Details Here

BMW has unveiled the i5 Long Wheelbase in India, which is the brand's electric take on its long-running executive sedan nameplate. Announced on August 21, 2026, the move brings a fully electric, locally assembled sedan into a segment where BMW has traditionally relied on petrol and diesel power, and it does so with a size and range advantage the brand is keen to highlight. Read on to know more about the all-new BMW i5 Long Wheelbase and what it has to offer.

BMW i5 LWB: Made in India

What sets this launch apart is where the car is being built. The i5 LWB rolls out of BMW's Chennai plant, making it the second all-electric BMW to be locally manufactured in the country and the very first electric sedan from the brand to be assembled on Indian soil. For a company that has been steadily expanding its EV footprint here, this is a meaningful step, since local production typically translates into sharper pricing and shorter waiting periods compared to fully imported models. Interested buyers can reserve a unit through BMW's authorised dealerships across India or register their interest directly via the brand's official website.

Segment-Leading Size and Rear-Seat Focus

BMW i5

BMW is positioning the i5 LWB as the largest and longest sedan in its class, and the numbers back that up: the car stretches 5,175 mm in length, 2,156 mm in width, and 1,520 mm in height, with a substantial 3,105 mm wheelbase. That wheelbase figure translates directly into rear legroom, and BMW has clearly built this car with chauffeur-driven customers in mind, given how much emphasis is placed on rear-seat comfort and cabin space.

BMW i5 LWB: Performance and Range

Under the skin, the i5 LWB uses a single electric motor producing 268 hp, enough to take the car from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds. That's respectable rather than outright quick for an EV, suggesting BMW has tuned the car more for smooth, comfortable progress than outright performance.

Range is where the car makes its strongest case. A large 81.6 kWh battery pack is paired with the motor, delivering a claimed range of up to 669 km on a single charge under MIDC testing conditions, a figure that should ease range anxiety for most daily and even long-distance use cases. To help the car cope with Indian road conditions, BMW has also fitted an adaptive rear-axle air suspension along with raised ground clearance, aimed at improving ride quality over rough patches and uneven surfaces.

A Limited First Edition to Mark the Launch

To coincide with the car's India debut, BMW is offering an exclusive First Edition variant restricted to just 99 units. This special version adds a rear-seat entertainment package that includes a tablet and mount, along with distinct interior detailing: Silver Bronze accents combined with open-pore Fineline wood trim and matching Silver Bronze inlays. A laser-etched "FIRST EDITION" marking on the dashboard trim further sets these cars apart. On the outside, the First Edition pairs a Carbon Black Metallic paint finish with Titanium Bronze accents for a distinctive, unmistakable look.

What About Pricing?

BMW hasn't revealed official pricing for the i5 LWB yet, and with bookings just opening, a formal launch date and price announcement are expected to follow in the coming weeks. Given its positioning as an electric flagship-adjacent sedan built locally, expect pricing to sit in the premium luxury EV bracket, likely rivalling other high-end electric sedans in the Indian market. We'll update this space as soon as official prices are announced.
