Tucson has been present in the Indian car market for a long time now. The mature design is well suited for everyone’s liking. At the front Hyundai has designed the Tucson with a wider front fascia. A wide smiling grille is matched with chrome & extended via projector C-shaped headlights. The curvy body lines merge decently into the rear design. At the rear, C-shaped LED taillights, curvy boot lid molding, & upright set bumper provide Tucson a big SUV look. Although, the design is now started to get outdated and Hyundai is already working on an updated model which is expected to launch soon globally by mid-2022.
The design is simple, mature & neutral but looks outdated now.
The ride and handling combination of Tucson is tuned in the typical Hyundai fashion. The overall layout is more oriented towards the softer side. This means, the suspension is soft & provides a cushioning ride to the passengers at city speed limits. Broken roads & bad patches are eaten up well and the NVH levels inside the cabin are also very well contained. Steering feedback is also very light for city use and the maneuvering capability of Tucson on traffic full roads is pretty easy. But, as you hit the highway, Tucson starts to move and pitch. This is due to the softer setup. Over the highway, Tucson is not an enthusiast’s delight. Braking is well and the handling is neutral which provides a good sense of control over triple-digit speeds.
Tucson's ride & handling is well suited for city use and occasional highway drives.
Hyundai provides the option of two various powertrains – petrol & diesel, in Tucson. The petrol variant uses a 2.0-Lt, BS6 compliant engine which produces 152.88 hp of peak power & 192 Nm of peak torque. This engine is mated to a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox option. The ARA-claimed fuel economy of this engine is 12.95 kmpl which is a decent figure for such a big-sized SUV.
Tucson is also available with a 2.0-Lt, turbo-diesel engine which produces a peak power of 182.46 hp & 400 Nm of peak torque. This engine comes mated with an 8-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. The claimed fuel economy of this engine is 15.38 Kmpl. This engine is the most powerful and torque-rich in the segment.
Hyundai has designed the engine & gearbox of the Tucson to perform well in sync with the AWD system. The power is well distributed and the engine pulls the SUV hard from a standstill.
Tucson can easily touch the top speed above 190 kmph which is more than enough for this segment.
Hyundai has equipped the Tucson SUV with loads of safety features. As Tucson is an international selling product, the sturdiness and chassis quality have already been tested by global safety agencies. Tucson comes with safety features which include – 6 Airbags, Hill-Assist Control, ABS, EBD, front parking assist, rear parking assist, height-adjustable seatbelts, & electronic parking brake as well. All these safety features combinedly make Tucson a very safe & sturdy SUV to own.
