Hyundai Tuscon

The Tucson was a premium D-segment SUV and the most expensive ICE-powered Hyundai in India, priced between Rs 27 lakh and Rs 33 lakh (ex-showroom). It was offered with both petrol and diesel powertrains, with its high price largely due to being imported via the CBU (Completely Built-Up) route. The availability of an AWD drivetrain made it a versatile vehicle.

On top of that, it looked sleek and muscular, but when compared to other SUVs in its segment, the Tucson's road presence felt relatively weak. At this price point, customers in India expect a car that not only offers all the features but also reflects their social status - something brands like Mahindra, Tata, and Toyota have mastered. That's one of the key reasons why their top SUVs continue to dominate the market.

Another key reason for its discontinuation is that it was a CBU model, which meant a higher upfront cost along with expensive maintenance and spare parts. Lastly, Hyundai itself didn't give the Tucson much attention over the past three years, as most of its focus was on the Creta - now India's No. 1 selling SUV.
To add to that, this was the fourth generation of the Tucson in India. Before this, the first and third generations were sold here. While the first generation gained decent popularity, the third one failed to make any significant impact - much like the fourth, which also struggled to find its place in the market.

Verdict
Hyundai Tucson is a great SUV with a Euro NCAP 5-star safety rating, international-standard fit and finish, and a 2.0L naturally aspirated petrol engine with an AWD drivetrain. Owners can't stop praising it, as it truly offered something different. That said, its high pricing and lack of marketing made it a forgotten product. Well, let's see if Hyundai ever decides to bring its next generation to India.
