Maruti Suzuki Eeco
The most affordable MPV on sale in India is the Maruti Eeco. Targetted as a basic commercial passenget van as well as a good transportation vehicle, the Eeco has remained popular due to its abuse friendly nature, efficient engine and value for money tag. While the Eeco remains short on features and a comfrotable ride, lack of any tough rival has ensured this retains its king of the best seller each month.

Should I buy the Eeco?
The Maruti Suzuki Eeco is a cheap MPV. It comes in both 5 and 7-seater versions. It has a refined petrol engine with great fuel economy. The old-school design makes it outdated. But, its low price and practicality make it a top seller. Though you can find this vehicle a lot in cab operations that might be a deterrent.
- The design of the Maruti Suzuki Eeco is very similar to the old Versa that used to come in the early 2000s. It comes with an upright bonnet. It has halogen setup for the headlights and indicators. The throw of these headlights is decent and there is an option for fog lamps as an accessory. The black bumper and grill reduce the visual bulk from the front.
- Coming to the side, it has 13” steel wheels with a hub cap. You can opt for wheel covers as an accessory and have sliding doors for easy in-rest and eg-rest. It has a total height of 1825 mm (unladen) which makes it a comfortable space for tall passengers. It has 3 equally sized glass areas that make it a less claustrophobic space inside.
- At the rear, it has a simple design language. The rear is neatly laid out with no fancy chrome and play of different items. The black bumpers reduce the visual bulk. Talking of boot space, it has a massive space. The 5-seater version has CNG as well as an option that still has great boot space after the cylinder.
Eeco body specifications:
| Wheel Size | R13 |
| Seating Capacity | 5 & 6 seaters |
| Ground Clearance | 160 mm |
| Boot Space | 510 liters |

- As we step inside, the cabin has a simplistic appeal to it. The dual-tone treatment of black and beige has a subtle character. Plenty of hard plastics are present around. The fit and finish of the interior is decent by the standards.
- The dashboard is clean with simple air vents and manual air conditioning. It has space for the music player that can be installed as an accessory from the dealer. The steering wheel is simple. It has no controls for music. And, it has no cruise control. You get multiple storage spaces for your items and a 12V socket to charge your phone.
- Today, you don't get a reverse parking camera. But, you still get two reverse parking sensors. They help you in parking this huge vehicle in tight spaces.
- The Maruti Suzuki EECO has a single petrol engine. It uses the K12N engine also found in other Maruti Suzuki cars like the Swift, Baleno, and Dzire.
- This is a 1197 cc 4-cylinder petrol engine. It makes 80 BHP and 105 Nm of peak torque. It is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. This engine has great driveability. It also comes with a CNG option. The CNG option has great fuel efficiency.
- The gearbox shifts smoothly and slickly. This makes it a very easy-to-drive car in the city and on highways. It has a light clutch.
- Talking about fuel efficiency, it has a great fuel efficiency. On petrol, in city conditions, it would return about 22-24 km/L depending on the driving style. In CNG mode, it would return more than 25 km/Kg and that makes it a very liked product among the tour operators.
Eeco engine specifications:
| Transmission | Manual |
| Mileage | 27 |
| Engine | 1197 cc |
| Power | 70.67 bhp @ 6000 rpm |
| Torque | 95 Nm @ 3000 rpm |
| Drive Train | RWD |
- The seating comfort of the Eeco is great. The front seats offer good space and a commanding view due to its design language. It has dual airbags. Along with them, there are 11 other safety features on offer.
- The 5-seater version has great space on offer. The floor is flat and 3 passengers are very comfortable at the rear. In the 7-seater configuration, the third row is a bench seat which makes it a comfortable place. The knee-room legroom can be quite cramped but it has great shoulder room for 3 passengers.
- The suspension is tuned on the softer side. It has great ride quality but due to its tall boy design, it has plenty of body roll and is not meant for high speeds. The ride gets shaky at triple-digit speeds. The tires let in some noise.
- The steering wheel is very well-calibrated and has good feedback. It is light in city conditions and provides a decent feel on highways. The tires have a little narrow profile and could have been done with wider tires to offer more grip levels.
