Should I buy the Wagon R?
The Maruti Suzuki Wagon R is one of the oldest products on offer in the market. It is offered in the CNG variant as well and is one of the most popular vehicles among tour operators. The CNG variant offers great fuel efficiency and engine reliability. It is good in space inside the cabin with decent features on offer. If you are still not convinced about opting for Wagon R, then you might try the HYUNDAI GRAND I10 NIOS or the TATA TIAGO.
The 2022 Maruti Wagon R is one car that is loved by many Indians as it offers space, comfort, features and the right price. The tall boy design has been carried over in the WagonR right from the first-generation. Tall boy cars now have new features and colour options to consider when purchasing a hatchback for daily use. When comparing the Wagon R's 1.2-litre engine to the Tiago's 1.2-litre engine, the Wagon R has four cylinders, whilst the Tiago only has three. In comparison to its competitors, the car has more space, making it a better choice. Maruti Suzuki India Limited has also introduced the Maruti Suzuki Subscribe Scheme, which allows consumers to get the 2022 Wagon R without actually owning it, which is unique and hassle-free way of getting a hands-on experience with its cars.
Summary
The new WagonR competes in a busy space. However, its got own set of USPs which will continue to make it a best seller .
- The design of the Wagon R has grown with time. It continues to have the tallboy design language which helps in great headroom inside. The front design looks sophisticated with a short hood and decent build quality. The halogen headlights have a decent throw and could have been better.
- Coming to the side profile, it continues to have the same 14” alloys in the mid and top variants. The steel wheel is offered in the base variant giving a basic look to the WAGON R. The tall boy design with rising window line continues the same OG design. Now it is available in a dual-tone paint scheme as well that provides a more sporty look.
- At the rear, it now gets a new design for the taillamps that has some resemblance to the Volvo’s design language. The boot space is great to accommodate your luggage. In the CNG option, you are compromised on the boot space. The loading lib is normal and stuffing luggage is not an issue. It continues to get WAGON R branding in the chrome above the number plate but now it misses on the variant badging.
- As we step inside the cabin of the Wagon R, there is a sense of roominess and sophistication inside. The seats offer great comfort but the missing adjustable headrests take away a part of comfort.
- The seat cushioning is great and there is no tiredness on long journeys. The rear seats offer great comfort, with ample knee room legroom. The cabin is wide enough to accommodate 3 passengers in the rear seat, making it a practical 5-seater.
- The feature list on offer has all the necessary features that a car at this price should offer. The touch-screen infotainment is slick to use and feels responsive. It has connectivity for both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
- It offers great practicality with bottle holders and cup holders in different areas.
- The Wagon R is offered in 2 engine options with CNG as well. First, it continues to offer the same 1L 3-cylinder engine that produces 69 BHP of power and 89 Nm of peak torque. It is mated to an either AMT transmission or the 5-speed Manual.
- The other engine is the same as the one on higher Maruti cars like the Swift or Baleno. It's the K12N engine, a 1.2L 4-cylinder making 89 BHP and 113 Nm of torque. It also comes equipped with both AMT and 5-speed Manual transmissions.
- The 3-cylinder engine is the most selected option and offers great fuel efficiency. The CNG option is also available that takes a step ahead in offering more fuel efficiency and boasts a great share in the market. It is one of the most trusted options among fleet operators.
- Both petrol engines are fuel efficient, getting over 20 km/L. In CNG mode, they are claimed to get 26.11 km/kg. In real life, they will get nearly 24-25 km/kg.
- The driveability of the 3-cylinder petrol engine is decent but you’ll feel some vibrations that filter inside the cabin.
The Maruti Suzuki Wagon R is a nice hatchback which will be a good companion if you are looking for a city car. The new engine gives good mileage on both CNG and petrol engine. It can be an excellent alternative if you are searching for a city car with some highway run, with a starting price of Rs 5.47 lakh (ex-showroom) and going up to Rs 7.19 lakh (ex-showroom). The new Maruti Suzuki WagonR is also available through the Maruti Suzuki Subscribe programme, which offers the car for an all-in monthly subscription cost starting at Rs 12,300/-. This amount would cover all ancillary costs associated with the vehicle, such as full registration, service and maintenance, insurance, and roadside assistance.
Summary
The best becomes even better!
- The seating comfort of the Wagon R is always better than the competition. It offers great comfort with spacious interiors. The light color theme upholstery increases the sense of airiness inside the cabin.
- The front seats offer great comfort. The seats are wide enough and the shoulders don’t rub against the passenger. One disappointing part is that now it gets nonadjustable headrests which may hamper the comfort levels inside the cabin.
- The rear seats offer more space since the wheelbase has now been increased in this model. It has ample amount of knee room and leg room, and its tall boy design enables enough headroom for tall passengers.
The rear seats offer great practicality. They have water bottle holders in each door. The windows pane is large and bring in lots of light inside the cabin.
