Things you will like:

  • Audio Quality: The output from the stock audio system is great and is definitely much better than that of its rivals.
  • 1.5-L Diesel Engine: The engine is powerful and extremely responsive to throttle inputs which makes it a great car for city as well as highway driving.
  • After-Sales Support: While people are still apprehensive about the after-sales support from Tata, the owner reports that his experience so far has been great and all the complaints are proactively addressed and rectified.
  • Comfortable and Spacious Cabin: There is enough room inside the cabin and large window area makes it feel airy, thus preventing the passengers from feeling claustrophobic inside.
  • Build Quality: We all are aware of the build quality of the new Tata vehicles and the Nexon is definitely one of the best-built cars in the segment.
  • Practicality: The Nexon is not just compact and easy to drive inside the city but also gets a number of storage spaces inside the cabin and sorted ergonomics which definitely make the ownership experience better.
  • Fuel Efficiency: This car delivers around 17-18 kmpl in the city with AC on while out on the highway, it can even deliver a fuel economy figure of around 30 kmpl with ac if not pushed very hard. (all these figures were calculated using tank full to tank full method)

Things That Should Have Been Better:

  • Infotainment Interface: While the audio quality is top-notch, the system feels laggy to use. The touch response too is decent but rivals do offer a better infotainment system.
  • Better Plastic Quality Inside The Cabin: Some of the components like the AC vent know feel flimsy to operate and should have been of better quality.
  • FootWell: The footwell is not very spacious and the dead pedal is placed close to the clutch. The driver will take time to get used to the footwell.
  • Visibility: The A-pillars are thick and cause a major blind spot for the driver. However, with time, as the driver adjusts to it, it will not be a great issue.
  • In-Cabin Illumination: There is only one cabin lamp which is placed near the IRVM.
  • Piano Black Centre Console: The gloss-black finish on the centre console definitely looks good but is difficult to maintain in the longer run.

The owner reports a smooth and a great ownership experience so far. The car has more than fifty thousand kilometres on the odo and is used as a primary vehicle in the family. The design of the vehicle is impressive and fresh when compared to other sub 4m SUVs and the build quality too is superb. Despite being one of the first units dispatched by the brand, there have been no issues observed except a few small niggles which were addressed by the service centre.

One of the highlights of this car is its engine. The 1.5-L turbo-diesel is extremely frugal and efficient at the same time. There is a huge reserve of power and torque at all time and driving this car on the highway is always a delightful experience. Having said that, the car remains planted and glued to the road, even on triple-digit speeds while the ride quality too is comfortable and smooth. Another thing worth mentioning here is the drive modes. The car gets three different drive modes which do alter the engine output and are really useful to alter the engine characteristics depending upon the usage.

Having said that, there were a couple of issues that were faced by the owner. To start with, the AC vent knob is not very well built and is fragile. The owner has so far replaced this knob twice so far. Other issues include excessive fogging inside one of the tail light and a check engine light and other warning lights. While the tail light was replaced without any hassle, the check engine light went off after a hard ECU refresh. Apart from that, the car is still going strong and we wish the owner many happy miles ahead.
