With more than 2 crore units of the Honda Activa been sold ever since it was launched for the first time, it is a no brainer for anyone to understand that this scooter is simply one of the best in the segment. However, the competition from the rivals was increasing. To tackle this, Honda has introduced the 2020 Honda Activa 6G BS6 with a number of upgrades and updates. So, how well is the product now? Let's take a look.
The 2020 Activa 6G BS6 comes with a number of changes that make it a great package to compete with for its rivals. The scooter now gets eSP technology that helps in the silent start. In addition, this technology also reduces friction in the engine due to which we now see an increase in 10% mileage of the scooter. Othe changes include the addition of telescopic suspension, double lid external fuel fill, front 90/90-12 tubeless tyres and improved fuel efficiency.
Powering the Activa 6G is a 109.51 cc, 4-stroke, Fan cooled, SI BS6 engine. This engine churns out 7.7 hp @ 8000 RPM and 8.79 Nm @ 5250 RPM and features programmed fuel injection. A CVT gearbox comes mated to this engine. In terms of performance, the Activa 6G is decent. The engine feels very smooth and there are no harsh vibrations when the scooter is pushed hard. Considering the segment standards, the Activa 6G is a great scooter with exceptional reliability and engine refinement. Fuel economy figures for this engine are claimed to be around 60 kmpl.
Honda has updated the suspension setup on the Activa 6G. Now, the scooter gets a telescopic front suspension while at the rear, we get a 3-step adjustable spring-loaded hydraulic suspension. These suspension upgrades have now resulted in better ride quality and at the same time, improving the handling characteristics at higher speeds. The scooter is underpinned by an underbone frame type and remains very composed at all speeds. However, at the higher speeds, the drum brakes setup at the front and rear feel underpowered.
In terms of styling and designing, not much has been changed and the Activa 6G still looks largely similar to the older models. However, there are small changes made to the overall design to make it look more appealing such as the sleeker LED headlamps and chrome accents on the front. The scooter looks elegant and the subtle design language looks appealing. The company has added an external dual-lid fuel filing setup which aids in better practicality. In addition to this, the 2020 Activa 6G BS6 also gets a new Glitter Blue Metallic paint scheme.
The 2020 Honda Activa 6G is available in two variants - Standard and Deluxe. The Standard variant is priced at Rs 65,953 and the Deluxe variant is priced at Rs 67,454 (ex-showroom, Delhi). The 2020 Honda Active competes against its rivals such as TVS Jupiter, Hero Maestro, Yamaha Fascino, etc.
