The new variant of the Chetak will likely be a improved version of the 2903 variant, but we can expect a few key differences. Given that the 35 Series Chetak received some serious changes, we can expect the new variant to also align with the rest of the lineup. The new variant could possibly receive share the new frame with the 35 Series lineup, with the battery pack placed under the floorboard. This will also give it a 35-litre underseat storage space.

It remains to be seen what steps Bajaj will take to price the new variant competitively. The new variant could likely retain the 2.9kWh battery pack, but with slightly improved range and charging time figures. For reference, the current 2903 Chetak comes with a claimed range of 123km on a single charge, and a 0-80% charge takes a claimed tine of 4 hours.

In terms of features, the upcoming variant of the Chetak could possibly miss out on bluetooth connectivity, and as such it won't receive music streaming and call accept/decline functions. The LCD instrument cluster will also miss out on colour treatment and could revert to the basic monochrome setting.

However, there is a risk of shortage of rare earth magnets globally, which is a key component in EV motors. China is a key exporter of rare earth magnets, and recently there were some changes to its import and export regulations, the effects of which are already being felt globally. Hence, this could potentially delay the introduction of the new upcoming variant of the Chetak.
