Ather Konarc Launch on 29th August: Things We Know So Far

Ather Energy is gearing up for what could be the most important product reveal in its history. The Bengaluru-based EV maker has confirmed that its long-rumoured mass-market electric scooter will be called the Konarc, and it will make its debut on 29th August 2026 at the brand's annual Ather Community Day. Here's a breakdown of everything that's been confirmed and expected ahead of the big day.

The Name Is Official

Konarc

After months of teasers, spy shots, and speculation, Ather co-founder and CEO Tarun Mehta put the guessing game to rest by sharing a teaser video on X, revealing the scooter's name. The choice of "Konarc" fits a pattern Ather has followed since the Rizta - the company has openly said it moved away from Western-sounding names like "450" after customers assumed Ather was a European brand. Mehta described the shift to names such as Rizta and Konarc as a deliberate pivot toward a more rooted, Indian identity for the brand.

Built On an All-New Platform

Konarc

What makes the Konarc significant isn't just the name - it's what sits underneath. This will be the first Ather scooter to ride on the company's brand-new EL platform, a ground-up architecture the brand says has been shaped using more than 26 lakh kilometres of real-world riding data. Unlike Ather's existing scooters, which were built around performance-first buyers, the EL platform has reportedly been engineered around everyday priorities: affordability, comfort, ease of charging, lower running costs, and stronger resale value.

The platform itself is designed to be modular, meaning it should eventually support several scooters with different battery sizes - reports suggest packs ranging from roughly 2kWh to 5kWh - allowing Ather to build out an entire family of products on this base rather than a one-off model.

Design: A Production Version of the EL01 Concept

The Konarc's styling traces directly back to the EL01 concept that Ather showcased at Community Day 2025, and recent factory-floor images shared by Mehta suggest the production version hasn't strayed far from that original design language. Based on teasers and leaked visuals so far, expect:

  • A handlebar-mounted headlamp, a departure from the apron-mounted units on Ather's current scooters
  • A wide LED daytime running light bar stretched across the front apron, with illuminated Ather branding
  • Metal body panels - a first for the brand, which has relied on polymer bodywork until now
  • A 14-inch front wheel paired with a 12-inch rear wheel
  • A disc brake up front and a drum brake at the rear
  • A chunkier rear section with all-LED tail lamps and turn indicators
  • A long, wide seat likely paired with generous under-seat storage
  • A smaller instrument console than Ather's flagship models, expected to be around 7 inches with smartphone connectivity

Expected Pricing and Positioning

Ather Konarc

Ather hasn't announced official pricing yet, but Mehta himself has hinted at a range of Rs. 1 lakh to Rs. 1.25 lakh (ex-showroom). That would place the Konarc below both the Rizta (from around Rs. 1.21 lakh) and the 450 series (from around Rs. 1.28 lakh), making it Ather's most accessible scooter yet. A Battery-as-a-Service option is also expected to be offered, which could lower the effective on-road price further for buyers who don't want to pay for the battery upfront.

At that price point, the Konarc would go up directly against high-volume commuter electric scooters like the TVS iQube and the Bajaj Chetak - a segment Ather hasn't seriously competed in until now.

Why This Launch Matters for Ather

Ather Rizta

The Konarc arrives at a moment when demand for Ather's scooters is already outpacing supply. During its Q1 FY27 earnings call, the company said paid pre-orders had jumped 158% year-on-year to around 1.5 lakh units. A scooter aimed squarely at first-time EV buyers and families - rather than tech enthusiasts could be Ather's biggest volume play to date, much like the Rizta was when it launched in 2024.

What to Expect on 29th August

At Ather Community Day, expect the brand to reveal full specifications, official pricing, variants, colour options, and possibly delivery timelines for the Konarc. Given how much of the design has already leaked through teasers, the event is likely to focus more on range figures, features, and the broader strategy behind the EL platform's future products.
