Honda Motorcycle & Scooter Reveals Future EV Roadmap - Announces New Platform

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Ltd has announced the electric vehicle roadmap for the Indian market. The company has declared that FY2024 will mark the introduction of its first electric scooter. The company has also announced a brand-new 'E' platform, which will serve as the foundation for the next electric scooters. Also, the brand has announced Workshop 'E' and Factory 'E' for the development and maintenance of EVs under the EV roadmap. The company will offer an extensive selection of mid-range, fixed battery, and swappable battery electric vehicle models.

Honda's EV Roadmap

Honda Activa 6G Smart

The first electric scooter from Honda will be a mid-range model that will go on sale as part of Project Vidyut between March 2023 and April 2024. The battery type of the second scooter will be switchable. In order to service the 'E' powertrains, the brand will also setup Workshop 'E'. The workshops will also house HEID battery exchangers and mini battery exchangers for swappable battery type and charging cables for fixed battery type. In addition, the company will set up more than 6,000 touchpoints and charging stations across the country to improve the charging infrastructure.

The brand has also announced Factory 'E' under which Honda will open an exclusive EV production plant in Narsapura, Karnataka. By 2030, it will be the goal to produce 1 million EVs annually. Advanced automation and 100% renewable energy will be used in the production of upcoming Honda electric 2 Wheelers.

Commenting on the announcement of EV roadmap, Atsushi Ogata, Managing Director, President & CEO, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India said, In line with Hondas global direction - to increase Electric Vehicle and Fuel Cell Vehicle unit sales ratio to 100 per cent by 2040, we will continue to improve efficiency of ICE engines with introduction of Flex fuel engine and follow government direction for alternate fuels while expanding electrification of models and eco-system.

Verdict: Honda is one of the largest two-wheeler manufacturer in the Indian market. With the upcoming electric two-wheelers Honda will be able to garner a significant share of electric two-wheeler market with its reliable technology, extensive sales and service network.
