Ola Electric has launched its most affordable electric scooter, the Ola S1 X at a price of Rs. 89,999 ex-showroom. This price tag makes it an entry-level e-scooter from the manufacturer. On top of this, an introductory Rs,10,000 off sweetens the deal to Rs. 79,999. It is available in a total of 3 variants, the S1 X 2kWh, S1 X 3kWh, and the S1 X+, which is also the range-topping trim.

Let's quickly get into the details of what it offers and holds back.

Ola S1 X: The Most Affordable Yet

In terms of design, the S1X maintains the essence of the S1 series while receiving subtle updates. Notably, the headlight cowl showcases a slightly larger top section, enclosing twin LED projectors with an LED bezel. The flat floorboard, reminiscent of the new S1 Gen 2 series, enhances practicality. Changes are also observed in the handlebar unit and the addition of round mirrors. The S1X boasts two-tone paint options for a distinctive appearance.

The foundation features basic components including pressed steel wheels and drum brakes on both ends. Up front, a telescopic fork manages suspension, while twin shock absorbers on a double-sided swingarm handle the rear. Utilizing Ola's 'Gen 2' e-scooter platform, the S1 X incorporates a redesigned frame that offers a flat floorboard for added convenience. To top it off, it comes with 7 color choices to select from.

Performance And Range

The S1 X gets the same powertrain as the Ola S1 Air but is rated at a power of 6 kW. The range and acceleration at 151 km and 0-40 km in 3.3 sec respectively is the same for the 3 kWh variant. For the upper 2 trims, they both get higher performance and range numbers. They get a top speed of 90kmph with a claimed range of 151 km. For the 2kWh variant, a top speed of 85 mph and a certified range of 91 km, plus a 0-40kph acceleration time of 4.1 seconds. To top it off, Ola claims a charging time of 7.4 hours for the S1 X lineup.

Ola S1 X: Features

While the S1 X shares many similarities with the S1 Air, there are notable differences that contribute to its competitive pricing. Unlike Ola's higher models, the S1 X forgoes a TFT touchscreen in favor of a more cost-effective LCD display. Additionally, it incorporates more unpainted black plastics compared to the S1 Air, aiding in cost reduction. Additionally, the S1 X+ comes with a 5-inch display rather than the 3.5 inches on the lower 2 variants. Plus, it gets smart connectivity features for a more convenient riding experience.

Price And Bookings

The Ola S1X (2kWh) is priced at Rs. 89,999, while the S1X (3kWh) and S1X Plus variants are priced at Rs. 99,999 and Rs. 1,09,999 (ex-showroom), respectively. The available color options include Red Velocity, Midnight, Funmk, Stellar, Vogue, Porcelain White, and Liquid Silver. Notably, the S1 Air has also seen a price increase of Rs. 10,000, bringing its cost to Rs. 1,19,999 (ex-showroom, Bengaluru).

The bookings are open, with deliveries for the top-spec S1 X+ expected to commence by the end of September. The lower two versions, however, are scheduled to reach buyers only in December

Verdict

While it is the most affordable yet, it does so with some cuts and misses. The paint scheme has black panels that help in pulling the costs down. The 2kWh variant on top of this, adds to the economical price bracket for the masses. But even then, it promises a good enough range for your daily city runs. The next in line are S1 X 3 kWh version which is the same, but has a bigger battery pack, whereas the S1 X+ offers the connected features for a richer experience. All in all, the new range has something in store for everyone that is eyeing an electric scooter. Also, join our Whatsapp Group Community of petrolheads to find out more exciting news like this.
