River Indie Warranty Details: What's Covered

The new program with the River Indie promises peace of mind by offering protection in two key scenarios, if the battery's State of Health (SoH) drops below 70%. If the motor becomes non-functional, even after attempted repairs. The 8-year extended plan can be purchased at Rs. 8,399 + GST for those who bought their scooter from April 1, 2025, onwards. Meanwhile, existing owners who had already opted for the 5-year warranty can upgrade to the new coverage for just Rs. 3,399 + GST, provided they do so within a limited one-month window.

River highlights that this is one of the most comprehensive warranty packages in India's EV two-wheeler segment, designed to deliver long-term value and dependability. For customers, this effectively reduces concerns around battery degradation and high replacement costs, two of the biggest hurdles in EV adoption.
River Indie: Powertrain & Performance

The River Indie is powered by a 4 kWh battery pack, with a claimed 161 km range on a single charge. Charging from 0-80% takes around 5 hours. The scooter's motor produces 6.7 kW and 26 Nm of torque, enabling it to sprint from 0-40 km/h in 3.7 seconds, with a top speed rated at 90 km/h.

Yamaha Connection
River's growing partnership with Yamaha adds another layer of credibility. The Japanese two-wheeler giant has already invested 40 million dollars into River and is reportedly working on an affordable EV scooter (codenamed RY01) based on Indie's platform, and the test mule of the same has also been spied on test a while ago. The upcoming Yamaha model is expected to share the battery management system and powertrain with the Indie, strengthening confidence in its engineering.
Verdict
With the introduction of the 8-year extended warranty, River is tackling one of the biggest ownership concerns head-on, which is long-term battery health and repair costs. By including both new and existing customers, the brand is ensuring loyalty while raising industry standards. Combined with Yamaha's backing this aims to positions River as a serious challenger in India's growing electric scooter market, something that River desparately needs to be considered a mainstream choice.
