The Japanese carmaker had earlier hinted towards Solid-State batteries during the launch of the Beyond Zero mobility concept. The new Solid-state batteries are expected to power at least one car by 2025 as per the brand's claims. Lithium-ion battery consists of two electrodes placed at far ends while the cavity is filled with a liquid electrolyte solution. The solid-state batteries also use the same two-electrode setup but the liquid electrolyte is replaced by a solid electrolyte. While solid-state is not a completely new technology, they do have a lot of advantages over standard lithium-ion batteries. For starters, the solid-state batteries are not only significantly smaller but can also store more charge, hence giving it a longer range to the vehicles.
