The Kinetic DX is coming back, albeit without the sound and the smell of 2T oil. Yes, this time it is coming back as an electric scooter, which was expected considering the e-Luna that was launched in 2023. The new electric DX is going to be Kinetic's first serious rival against the Bajaj Chetak, TVS iQube and the Ather Rizta.

Kinetic DX Officially Teased; Details
Months ago, we reported about Kinetic's patent images for an electric version of the DX, which used to be a famous petrol scooter during the 1990s. Since then, a few test mules have been caught, and now the two-wheeler maker has rolled out some teasers before its launch on July 28.
As per the new teasers, the design of the electric DX will be based heavily off of the original, to cash in on the nostalgia factor. The rectangular ORVMs and the head unit are of the same shape, but the headlamp appears to be a slimmer, rounded-rectangular unit, flanked by DRLs on either side, and also what appear to be turn-indicators in the shape of the Kinetic company logo.
It is possible that the new DX may get the DRLs and turn indicators integrated in the same unit similar to what we have seen in some modern cars. The DX will also carry over the small visor with the Kinetic lettering, and there will also be a small panel featuring the Kinetic logo on the front apron. The side panels will also remain familiar, featuring the tri air vents placed behind. However, the tail lamps could be restyled, and it is also unlikely to carry over a spare wheel, unlike the old scooter.
The iconic square starter button will be featured here too, but obviously without the sound of the 2-stroke engine following it. The DX is likely to be powered by a hub-mounted electric motor, with multiple battery pack options. Whether or not they could be fixed or removable is something we'll know later. However, it is likely to be positioned as a family electric scooter, and we can expect it to be equipped with connected features.

Verdict
The DX is going to be Kinetic's first serious attempt at entering the electric scooter segment, and this will be interesting, given how the Bajaj Chetak has gone on to perform well in the Indian market. The DX will cash in on the nostalgia, and it should also be able to bring in some much-needed new customers.
