Mercedes-Benz V-Class

Mercedes-Benz is bringing back the V-Class to India, with its official launch scheduled for March 3. The premium MPV was discontinued in 2022, but with luxury people-movers witnessing strong demand in India, Mercedes-Benz has decided to reintroduce it as part of its expanding top-end vehicle portfolio. Internationally, it is offered with multiple wheelbase and seating configurations, and is expected to be powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine. Once launched, it will rival the likes of the Toyota Vellfire and Lexus LM in the luxury MPV space.

Mercedes-Benz V-Class Latest Update

Last Updated On 11th Feb'26:

Design: The Mercedes-Benz V-Class retains its traditional slab-sided MPV silhouette, prioritising space and presence over aggressive styling. Globally, it is offered in two wheelbase options - Long (3,200mm) and Extra Long (3,430mm), although it remains to be seen which version will be introduced in India.
At the front, the V-Class features a swooping bonnet that flows into a large U-shaped grille, flanked by sleek headlamps. The side profile carries a rising shoulder line and large glasshouse, while the rear gets a vertical tailgate design that enhances practicality. Wheel and bumper designs vary depending on the trim level, which includes Premium, Exclusive and AMG Line variants overseas.

Interior and Comfort: Inside, the V-Class gets twin 12.3-inch screens for infotainment and instrumentation. However, this is the older-generation Mercedes dashboard layout, meaning it does not feature the brand’s latest full-width screen setup. Instead, it retains a more conventional layout with tactile physical buttons and controls on the centre console.
The true highlight of the V-Class lies in its rear-seat experience. In the top-spec 6-seat configuration available abroad, the second and third rows feature individual captain seats with reclining function, extendable footrests, seat ventilation, massage function, integrated storage compartments with ambient lighting, USB ports and cup holders.
Globally, the V-Class is offered in three seating layouts – 8-seat, 7-seat and 6-seat – though the exact configuration for India is yet to be confirmed.

Powertrain: In markets such as the UK, the V-Class is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine available in two states of tune which include 220d that makes 163hp/380Nm and 300d which is capable of generating 237hp and 500Nm of torque
The engine comes paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission and is offered in both rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations internationally. However, the India-specific powertrain details are yet to be confirmed.
There is also an all-electric version called the EQV available globally, but Mercedes-Benz has not announced plans to bring it to India at this stage.

Market Positioning & Competition: Luxury MPVs are steadily gaining popularity in India. Buyers in the Rs 1 crore-plus segment are increasingly prioritising rear-seat comfort and chauffeur-driven usability. Toyota, for instance, sold over 1,100 units of the Vellfire in FY2025, indicating strong demand in this niche but growing segment.
When the V-Class was last on sale in India, its primary rival was the Toyota Vellfire. However, the competitive landscape has since expanded with the entry of the Lexus LM and MG M9, making the segment more crowded than before.
Interestingly, the V-Class is expected to be the only diesel-powered MPV in this premium space, as its key rivals are either hybrid or fully electric. Mercedes-Benz is expected to price the new V-Class at around Rs 1 crore (ex-showroom), depending on the variant introduced for the Indian market.
