Mercedes-Benz E-Class
The E-Class is probably among the most popular cars from Mercedes-Benz in India, as it continues to sell in high volumes year after year. Not too long ago, the E-Class received yet another generational upgrade, with a fresher, evolutionary design and added equipment. It is currently the only car in its segment to offer a diesel engine option, as well as an all-wheel drive variant. It also gets a first-of-its-kind centre airbag, as well as memory function for the active emergency braking system.

Pros & Cons of E-Class
What we admire in this car
What we admire in this car
Even in 2024, Mercedes offers a diesel E-Class, unlike rivals like the 5 Series or A6, which are petrol-only
The Superscreen setup, consisting of three screens at the front, is available with every variant
The rear seat experience is very close to what the bigger S-Class offers, which starts at Rs 1.77 Cr.
The company also launched a performance variant, the E 450 4Matic, to cater to enthusiasts.
The Burmester 4D Surround Sound System transforms ordinary rides into concerts
Rear seats can be adjusted in multiple ways, elevating the experience
A big step forward from the previous generation in every department
What could have been better
What could have been better
The main rival, the BMW 5 Series, starts at 72.90 lakh, which is 5.6 lakh cheaper than the E-Class
The three-screen setup is more of a showoff, as the front passenger really doesn’t need a dedicated screen.
Fingerprint smudges on the screens are annoying and spoil the look.
Due to its long wheelbase, one has to be careful when crossing a large bump
Mercedes-Benz E-Class Detailed Review
-
The new E-Class’ design is more evolutionary than revolutionary. The new grille and headlights give off a very EQ-like vibe. The E 450 exclusively receives new Digital Headlights that adjust to the topography.
-
There are two body trims to choose from; Avantgarde, and AMG Line, both of which can be differentiated visually, such as the front bumper elements and AMG-spec alloy rims. You can choose from five paint schemes Nautic Blue, Polar White, High-tech Silver, Graphite Grey, Obsidian Black.
-
The flush-fitting door handles are new, and they further add to the EQ influence. Along with the light 18-inch alloy rims, these changes make the new E-Class look even more premium.
-
The resemblance to the S-Class becomes more apparent from the rear, with the shape of the roofline and the tailgate. It now gets connected tail lights which feature new tri-star DRL elements.
-
The new E-Class comes with a marginally shorter wheelbase than the BMW 5 Series, measuring 3094mm, which is 11mm shorter, and that is despite the wheelbase gaining an extra 15mm.
E-Class body specifications:
| Wheel Size | 18-inch |
| Seating Capacity | 5 seaters |
| Ground Clearance | 120 mm |
| Boot Space | 540 liters |

-
The Hyperscreen is similar to what we have seen on most new Mercedes-Benz cars; a 14.4-inch infotainment touch screen, 12.3-inch instrument cluster, and the 12.3-inch passenger screen running on the latest MBUX software.
-
The new E-Class focuses on sustainability, as Mercedes-Benz claims that 99kgs of components in its interiors are made out of sustainable, resource conserving materials.
-
The AMG Line gets a flat-bottomed steering wheel, while the Avantgarde trim gets the normal one.
-
The E-Class gets a first-of-a-kind centre airbag, along with a reclining rear seat with power-adjustable underthigh support, voice-assisted retractable sun blinds, a selfie camera for video conferencing, four-zone climate control, a 17-speaker Burmester 4D surround sound system with Dolby Atmos, and six fast-charging USB ports among other things.
-
The new E-Class also gets a ‘Routines’ function, which enables a memory automation function for things such as the air-conditioning, power windows, and active brake assist among other things.
-
The new E-Class comes with three powertrain options, which includes two petrol and one diesel option. All are paired to a 9-speed automatic transmission and a 48V mild-hybrid system.
-
The first petrol option is the E 200, which is powered by a 2.0-litre, four-cyl, turbo-petrol, producing 201bhp and 320Nm of torque.
-
The E 220d is the only diesel powertrain option available with the new E-Class. Also powered by a 2.0-litre, four-cyl mill, this setup puts out 197bhp and 440Nm of torque.
-
The E 450 comes with a larger. 3.0-litre, six-cyl powertrain, and this is the first time that the E 450 has made it to India. This engine produces 375bhp and 500Nm of torque, with deliveries set to commence from mid-November.
