Should I buy the Punch 2021-2026?
- Tata introduced the Punch into the micro-SUV segment, offering robust SUV styling at a price similar to a hatchback. Its styling has become a unique selling proposition, presenting a compact yet stylish car with significant road presence.
- Sporting a high-set bonnet, upright pillars, accentuated arches, and distinctive cladding characteristic of SUVs, the Punch is the smallest member of Tata's SUV lineup, drawing design cues from the larger Safari, particularly evident in the split headlamp setup.
- The exterior attributes, including LED DRLs, chrome underlining, and a tri-arrow grille, contribute to the Punch's purposeful appearance. The cladding on the doors, large wheels, and contrasting roof and mirrors enhance its overall visual appeal. With 90° door openings, easy cabin access is facilitated. The rear styling is equally compelling, with a tailgate boasting prominent cuts and tri-arrow LED tail lights, accompanied by cladding on the rear bumper.

- The interior quality of the Tata Punch is good. Tata has adeptly managed overall space, offering a commendable list of features for prospective buyers. Entering the Tata Punch is a breeze, thanks to the doors opening at a convenient 90° angle. The dashboard exhibits a layered design, and the choice of plastics within the cabin is noteworthy. Textured plastics adorn the top of the dashboard, the center console features Tata's distinctive tri-arrow pattern, and the lower side showcases textured plastics.
- Notable features include the aesthetically pleasing AC vent and a neatly arranged center console. Familiar elements from previous models, such as the 7-inch screen, steering wheel, and digital instruments, are retained. The touchscreen functionality is responsive and effective for a car in this class, offering compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
- Included are the digital instruments, which include a 7-inch screen with turn-by-turn navigation and instructive features. If needed, it also indicates where the front tires are located. Practicality-wise, the Punch complements a sizable, stylish glove box with an easter egg-themed rhino design. It's also visible on the back windscreen. There are functional pockets with bottle holders on each of the four doors, and the base of the dashboard has lots of room.

- Tata Punch comes with a 1.2-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine sourced from the Tiago. Generating a peak power of 84 hp and a peak torque of 113 Nm at 3300 rpm, this engine exhibits good performance. However, a slight pause is noticeable when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear, and the gearbox responds differently to throttle inputs. - It remains responsive to manual shifts, facilitating quick downshifts when needed. The Punch demonstrates good high-speed stability, feeling as surefooted as a larger or heavier car. Considering its size and weight, the overall performance of the Punch is satisfactory. Furthermore, the light clutch and short gear shift action prove advantageous for city commuters.
- Another engine option is the 1.2-litre CNG powertrain which produces 73.5 PS of power and 103 Nm of peak torque. This engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission only.
- Tata has earned a reputation for producing some of the safest cars in its segment, and the Punch stands as a testament to this commitment. The build quality of the Punch is notably robust and solid, exemplifying Tata's dedication to safety.
